Poverty and local development

UNDP/Armenia Community Development Program

Since 2001, a wide range of support to over 150 rural and urban communities in Armenia has been developed, including rehabilitation infrastructure and creation of income generation opportunities.UNDP was able to improve living standards in the targeted communities by rehabilitating over 45 social and economic infrastructures, including education, health, gas, irrigation and water facilities. Given the importance of agriculture as a source of livelihood in the regions of Armenia UNDP in Armenia implemented over 50 agricultural and agro-processing projects in the last 9 years.More than 600 start-up entrepreneurs have been trained and loans were provided to 140 of them with the total amount of USD 450,000, thus creating more than 250 new workplaces.

the 2001 -2009 it stands for 382 ha only.

institutions and refurbished them according to the EU best standards

-To provide around 300 VET teachers with professional training per year

-To enlarge Armenia’s Protected Areas by 53%, adding 48,000 ha of underrepresented habitats under protection

-At least 90 communities receive direct financial assistance to cope with surrounding environmental issues

-Assist at least 30 communities in installation of solar water heats

-At least 25,000 additional people use bio pounds for waste water treatment in rural areas
