In the age of urbanization and fast paced living, weight gain and obesity seems to
have evolved into a common problem that has been taken for granted by most if not all.
The result? Expunging cases in overweight people, obesity, diabetes and other health
problems. This situation is posing out to be an increasing public health problem and
people need to know how and what obesity is. o in the efforts of overcoming obesity
and weight gain, many studies have been conducted over the years to aid and help people
better understand the causes of obesity. !ith different studies providing different or even
conflicting results, it turns out that obesity is not as simple as we thought to be. "verall,
obesity is caused by various factors that play a role in obesity, for example behavior,
environment and genetics can have an effect of a person#s body weight and weight gain.
"ne of the extensively studied causes of obesity is environment, because often
times, certain decisions are made based on environment and community surrounding
them.
$irstly, one of the symptoms of obesity is genetics, studies have shown that
genetics play an important part in weight gain. %enes is the basic physical and functional
unit of heredity, simply put they are in charge of giving your body instructions depending
on enviromental changes. &nd so new born childs have eighty percent correlation of
weight with their genetic parents solely due to gene similarity. tudies also showed that
people who have two copies of a specific gene variant, known as Insig'( were twenty two

particular gene affects the regulation of fat production in another gene. These studies
have identified that obesity maybe somewhat inherited through genetics within a given
family tree, there is a clear pattern where a specific variant of a gene is inherited within a
