Constructed of high density, acrylic-coated dark gray board and blue poly-cotton

C-1 grade cloth, the Spine Wrap™ Pamphlet Binder was originated and patent-

ed by LBS and is exclusive to Archival Products. In the mid-80’s as a cooperative effort

with preservation librarians and book conservators, this binder, after years of design,

development and testing, became the solution to pamphlet binders that caused damage

due to installation procedures and binder composition.

The Spine Wrap™ Pamphlet Binder provides durability, efficiency, preservation, an aes-

thetically pleasing appearance and reversibility. Your pamphlet can be quickly and easily

stapled or sewn into the Spine Wrap™ Pamphlet Binder to give it ultimate protection.

The patented feature of our pressure-sensitive adhesive strip that is applied across the

back of the binder after stitching is complete, conceals and protects the binding struc-

ture giving a finished look to the bound document. Archival Products offers the clear

advantage on all of our pamphlet binders—you may choose a heavy 20 point clear PETG

or dark gray board front for the same price. There is no extra charge for the clear front.

Spine Wrap™ Music Binder is a treatment that is easy to use and meets archival

quality performance standards. Designed for maximum flexibility, it lies flat on a music stand

or piano deck for convenient use during performance. Besides protecting the music, the

binder also protects bibliographic information on the first and last pages of the score.

Archival Products offers the clear advantage on all music binders—you may choose a

heavy 20 point clear PETG or dark gray board front for the same price. There is no extra

charge for the clear front.

Separate music sheets or other parts can be housed in the optional pockets. We offer

vertically placed die-cut straight or diagonal pockets made of acrylic-coated poly-cotton

C-1 grade-cloth, Tyvek® straight pockets or full width Tyvek® pockets with diagonal cut access.

All pockets are designed to prevent damage that often occurs when papers are pushed

into conventional pockets.

Four flap enclosures are a safe, effective method to

store documents and pamphlets without boxing or

attaching them to a case. The enclosure fully protects and

securely holds your material so it can be easily shelved. The

precision die-cut 10 point inner four flap with a 1/8 inch

spine score is attached to a 40 point outer folder with

a green acrylic-coated poly-cotton C-1 grade cloth spine

that allows easy labeling. Both are made of sandstone

archival board. Available in a variety of sizes, the four flap

enclosure safely covers your important documents for long-

term protection.

The four flap enclosure allows you to open the folder

and all four flaps, place your document or pamphlet in the

center and close the bottom, top, right and left flaps. The

final flap can be secured with Velcro® dots upon request.

Avariation of our four flap enclosure, the custom

four flap enclosure offers flexibility for storing

various depths of materials. The sturdy 20 point interior

four flap and 60 point exterior folder give added protection

for heavier materials. The 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 and 1 inch scores let

you choose the thickness your enclosure needs.

To store materials, open the folder and all four flaps.

After determining the thickness of your materials, fold each

flap on the appropriate score. Place your document in the

center and close the bottom, top, right and left flaps. The final

flap can be secured with Velcro® dots provided. Special sizes

to provide a mid-priced binder to save you cost without compromising

materials and structure. These binders are composed of dark gray acrylic-coated, high-

density board and blue poly-cotton C-1 grade cloth. The Quick Bind™ Music Binder lies

flat on a music stand or piano deck for convenient use during performance. Offered in

standard sheet music and oblong sizes, the binders fit rectangular pages and music

Separate music sheets or other parts can be housed in optional pockets. We offer die-

EZ™ Pamphlet Binder

An affordable classic-style pamphlet binder with a remoistenable adhesive cloth strip. The durable, sturdy, affordable classic style of the EZ™ Binder is the

answer for frequently used pamphlets, magazines and other materi-

als that need extra protection from daily handling. Heavily used or short-

lived materials can be directly glued into the binder or stitched into a paper

liner prior to gluing. The structure of acrylic-coated gray/white archival

board and black C-1 grade cloth spine features a stitched acid-free cotton cam-

bric interior strip coated with a remoistenable adhesive that is easy to use.

The 5/8 inch spine allows binding of only one sheet or up to 1/4 inch of

materials. Simply moisten the gummed cambric with a brush, insert materials

with the bottom flush with the binder and allow the strip to dry before

using. For quick identification of your insert, you may choose a 20 point

clear PETG cover at no extra charge.

If you prefer not to use the stitched remoistenable adhesive cloth strip,

specify regular cambric strip not sewn.

As a cost-effective pamphlet binder style, this enclosure is the same

as our Quick Bind Pamphlet Binder but is constructed of different

materials. The durable components of 56 point, acrylic-coated gray/white

archival board and gray C-1 grade cloth make a very efficient, attractive

binder. The acrylic-coated board guards against moisture and soiling and

the flexible spine accommodates various thicknesses of materials. As with

all of our pamphlet binders, we offer the clear advantage—you may choose a

heavy 20 point clear PETG or gray/white archival board front for the same price.

S E W I N G P R O C E D U R E S F O R P A M P H L E T S A N D M U S I C

Supplies: #3, 2 1/4" long sewing needle. .040 diameter and 20/2 linen thread.

A. When threading your needle, allow enough thread to tie the ends at the completion of the final step. A guideline to measuring the thread length is to multiply the height of the pamphlet by 2 1/2. Sew down through the inner center of the spine leaving a tail of threads to tie off when the sewing is finished. Then sew up through hole 2, across to hole 3 and then back up through hole 1, the center,keeping each end of the thread on opposite sides of the cross thread.

B. Tie a half square knot and pull the ends tightly without tearing the paper.

C. Tie again carefully holding the first half of the knot in place. Gently pluck the string to ensure adequate tension.

D. If the tension is too loose, repeat the process.

E. Trim the ends of the thread 1/4 inch from theknot and fray with the tip of the needle.

As a collaborative effort with the New York Academy of Medicine,

the Academy Folder was designed to display a portrait collection

while protecting the pictures from damage. Constructed of 40 point sand-

stone archival board with a brown poly-cotton C-1 grade cloth and a clear,

chemically stable 3 mil archival polyester film interior L-weld envelope, the

enclosure prevents unnecessary handling while allowing for easy viewing.

The polyester film envelope is welded on the bottom and fore edge, and

opens at the top and spine for easy placement of photos, prints, small

maps, postage stamps and certificates. This structure gives protection and

easy viewing of both sides of your document.

Newspaper and Map Folder

3 Mil Melinex®

Challenged with large, awkward sizes of maps and newspapers, we

created a solution by enlarging our academy folder to give utmost

protection to oversized materials. Made of 60 point sandstone archival board,

brown acrylic-coated poly-cotton C-1 grade cloth and a clear, chemically

stable 3 mil archival polyester film interior L-weld envelope, the enclosure

provides flat, safe storage for easy viewing of front and back of materials. This

enclosure works well for prints, stamp collections and storage of thin magazines

or oversized pamphlets. As with all folders, custom sizing is available.

When materials are too thick to fit inside a pamphlet

binder, Hinge Board Covers are a natural solution and

work well for storing government documents, financial reports or

hard copy databases. Used with your in-house binding system such as

post bind, velo bind or togic bind, they provide a tightly constructed

binding. If you do not have an automated binding system, you can side

staple with a heavy-duty stapling system or punch holes in the hinge

to post bind or lace.

Hinge Board Covers are made of acrylic-coated gray/white

archival board with the option of a clear PETG cover at the same

price. A 3/4 inch hinge is made of a double thickness of blue acrylic-

coated poly-cotton C-1 grade book cloth. A variety of sizes are offered

Various binding systems can be used for applying hingeboard covers to your materials.

Side-staple: Place material between board covers and align with the spine and bottomedge. Use a heavy-duty long-armed stapler to staple evenly across the hinge cloth.

Screw Posts: Line up your material between the front and back covers even with thespine and bottom edge. Punch or drill three holes 3/8 inch from the edge—the first one-inch from the top, the second in the center, and the third one-inch from the bottom. Insert screw posts through the hole and secure into the screw post backing.

Lacing: Place material between the board covers and align with the spine and bottomedge. Punch three holes: one center, one-inch from the top and one-inch from the bottom. Tie together with laces.

Spiral Book Binder

A quick solution that allows you to shelve and protect spiral bound materials.

The Spiral Book Binder, designed with the University of

Iowa and consulting with preservation librarians and

book conservators, is a quick and easy solution developed specif-

ically for spiral bound books. The .040 sandstone archival board

is scored and flexed to form the binder’s spine. The .020 PETG

clear cover, attached with durable C-1 grade cloth, shows the

cover of the book you insert. William Minter, book conservator,

has worked with us to develop a solution for books with a 1/4"

spiral using a stainless steel wire. A high-density acrylic-coated

dark gray archival board strap or a wire for 1/4" spirals is riv-

eted to the inside spine and is used to spear the book’s spiral. A

hole is pre-drilled through the spine of the binder for the locking

mechanism.

Insertion entails slipping the spiral of the book over the

strap, attaching the polypropylene lock through the spine hole and

strap or wire, applying the lock nut on the inside of the binder

and clipping the end of the shaft to the appropriate length.

Flexing the covers in the opposite direction once before inserting

your spiral book helps the continuous board binder lie better. The

binder is available with a 7/16, 1/2, or 3/4 inch spine strap or wire

for 1/4" spirals. Custom size minimum order: 25 pieces

flexed and formed, then cased in a black Linen Cortina

conservation buckram. A 3-ring metal holds our black

polypropylene Safety-sleeve® pages for superior disc

protection.

The polypropylene lift up window of the Safety-sleeve® securely

holds each disc in place and keeps dirt away from discs. The disc is

suspended above a soft, non-woven, clean room material, which

uses no chemical binders and will not shed or form lint. Dirt and

microscopic debris go down through the fabric and become trapped

green at our core.

Our Eco Binders have a core of 96% post-consumer waste

plus 4% recycled-material binders board manufactured in the

United States with waste paper from the state of Connecticut.

The board is acid neutral and the fabric binding is 100% cotton

cloth with water-based acrylic coating. Not only are these

binders attractive, they are incredibly durable with a useful life that

far exceeds that of a vinyl binder. The hinge is an integral part of the

binder, not a separate piece. An independent testing laboratory con-

firmed that the hinges are strong when they ran flex tests of over

250,000 openings and closings with no visible change. That’s

Developed specifically as an easy-to-use publisher jacket cover, this smooth

3-mil non-glare polypropylene is an impressive material for covering

and protective book wrapping. No tape that could potentially damage the

books is needed. The relative non-slip of the book cover grips the book as it

is handled. Just slide the publisher jacket head into the pre-folded edge, bring

up the tail, fold by eye and crease. The covered jacket gloves onto the book and

around the foredge without any pre-creasing. An extremely easy application! The

end result is a non-glare book cover with improved legibility that protects the

book and jacket against water damage, abrasion, dirt, dust and soiling.

This lightweight non-glare polypropylene book cover is clear, colorless and

safe for long-term storage. It’s non-sharp edges will not catch running tears. It

has a variety of uses for publisher jacketed books, special collections, rare books

and books with red rot. The polypropylene is easily cut and folded for use for

panoramic photo straps, photo corners or other applications and can be ultra-

sonic welded for overlay for a variety of collections including maps and documents.

Non-glare polypropylene can also be incorporated into archival enclosures

that double as display enclosures. This is a very useful combination enclosure,

especially for classroom demonstration materials, not to mention the more uni-

versal situation of table-top research use of multiple items. The non-glare feature

prevents the distracting reflections of overhead lighting and greatly eases exam-

ination of the document without requiring removal of the item or lifting of the pro-

tective film. Non-glare polypropylene is a solution to the problems of reflective

polyester that presents a real obstacle for display, camera copy, ease of viewing

and inhibits application of polyester overlay as a reader-friendly, aesthetically

acceptable enclosure. An advantage of the polypropylene protector is that it does

not visibly scuff.

An added value to Archival Products non-glare polypropylene book cover is a

slip sheet to ease stacking and handling. The acid-free buffered interleave can be

used for a variety of conservation applications.

Made specially for phase box production systems, our E-flute corrugated

archival board is an excellent choice for boxmaking. Great care has gone into

ensuring that this material meets archival standards in terms of chemical

composition while offering excellent folding strength and rigidity. E-flute has

94 flutes per foot which gives it great crush resistance and has a flat surface

for high quality applications. An extremely strong corrugated board, the thin

profile (approximately 1/16 inch thick) reduces box size and saves storage

space. Its thin profile and excellent cushioning properties make it a good

solution for small to medium sized materials. Full sheets are 50 x 60 inches.

Made from a fully bleached virgin kraft, levels of trace metal impurities are less than

the allowable standard of 30 parts per million of copper and one part per million

of iron. Colorfast and fade-resistant pigments, rather than dyes, give these boards

their soft tan color. Our sandstone archival board exceeds Library of Congress (LOC)

and National Archives and Records Admin istration (NARA) stiffness and abra-

sion requirements. We use the board in a variety of our prod ucts including the
