ARCHITECT/ENGINEER FIELD REPORT Penfield Pavilion Repair and Reconstruction 323 Fairfield Beach Road Fairfield, CT 06824 Report #44 June 7, 2016 (Tuesday) Weather: Sunny, 80s Time: 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM, and 11 to Noon Present: Kevin Chamberlain (D&C), Marc Vincent (SDC PM), Brian McDonald (SDC PE) Jeff Whalen (SDC super), Jim Bradley (PBC), Richard Speciale (PBC), Joe Michelangelo (DPW), Gerry Lombardo (P&R) Work occurring today: Job Meeting #12 was held this morning, see minutes prepared by Shawmut Design & Construction. Shawmut held a coordination meeting with representatives of Waters (site), Banton (electrical and carpentry), Crest (plumbing), CT Concrete (concrete), QSR (steel), and Wolfe (mover) to discuss the steps and schedule for moving the building back onto the new foundation. Undersigned attended to represent architect and owner. Jeff of Shawmut held meeting with Tom of Banton Construction and Jason of Domack Roofing to review transition detail from low pitch EPDM roof to high pitch asphalt shingle roof at Locker Wing. Undersigned attended to represent architect. All agreed that plywood flat roof deck will be held down from peak of pitch roof sheathing by the thickness of the insulation and recovery board (about 5”), so that EPDM membrane can run across and down the high pitch over the asphalt shingles without a curb. Domack will provide a continuous metal flashing with blind attachment to cover the joint, no extra cost. Framing is proceeding in this manner. Also, Domack to review existing skylight curbs which will be reinstalled in new roof and coordinate finished height of curb any need for curb blocking with Shawmut and Banton. Banton Construction is setting built-up LVL roof beams onto the PSL posts at the locker wing. Waters construction is excavating for and placing storm water recharge loop under West Wing foundation area, and backfilling same with crushed stone. Crest is installing buried storm and sanitary piping under West Wing foundation area, with excavation work from waters as needed. Town of Fairfield DPW crew has begun the removal of the remaining 40% of the timber bulkhead seaward of the Locker Wing. Rubber tired backhoe and about 6 workers on site. Special Inspection Items: 1. West Wing: Pile butts have been treated with copper napthenate wood preservative as required (see report #43). See photo following page. 2. One row of PSL roof posts at the Locker wing were cut 1 ½” short and have been extended with a piece of PSL. See photo following page. Concern is maintaining wind uplift detail. Banton will supplement the post/beam connection with an added 5/8” CDX plywood gusset 2 sides of post (in addition to 2x6 wood plates two sides). This corrective work will be OK. Report #45 June 9, 2016 (Thursday) Weather: Sunny, 60s, windy Time: 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM Present: Kevin Chamberlain (D&C), Marc Vincent (SDC PM), Jeff Whalen (SDC super), Al (Waters),

Phil (Banton) Work occurring today: Banton Construction is setting 2x10 rafters at perimeter high pitched roof of Locker Wing. Banton also continuing work on foam removal (subcontractor) and notching/sistering/blocking of existing 2x12 joists under West Wing. Waters construction is excavating for and placing storm water recharge loop (SDR 35 PVC) under West Wing foundation area, and backfilling same with crushed stone. Crest is installing buried storm and sanitary piping (schedule 40 PVC) under West Wing foundation area, with excavation work from waters as needed. Town of Fairfield plumbing inspector (Jim Girardi) on site to inspect underground sanitary piping, noted that piping is capped and has 10’ stack test in place. Surveyor, Huntington Co., on site to review what needs to be staked so building can be moved back, reviewed with Shawmut and Waters. Pit has been excavated for outdoor shower fountain, and associated piping, at Locker Wing. Town of Fairfield DPW crew continuing with disassembly of existing bulkhead seaward of locker wing. Using tracked excavator to extract 3x12 sheeting and dig out old footing/pier combos and boulders set earlier in the project. Boulders and concrete being loaded into Town dump trucks and removed from site. Shawmut brought to my attention discrepancy with incoming domestic water service. Drawings showed 3” copper based on original drawings. Actual lateral between meter pit and building is 2” O.D. (1 5/8” I.D.) blue plastic HDPE pipe, which transitions to 2 ½” soft copper at riser up to building. Reviewed internal piping in sprinkler/electric room, it continues as copper thru balance of building. See photo next page. Will review with Hofbauer Associates whether existing 2” O.D. pipe is adequate or needs to be replaced with 3”, and also whether plastic in lieu of copper is adequate for incoming buried lateral. Banton inquired about rake overhang detail on new Locker Wing roof, shall be near flush condition, use 1x8 rake trim outboard of siding, but no overhang otherwise. Special Inspection Items:

1. Re item #2 from report #44, plywood gussets have been added at spliced posts, OK. Photos: see following page.
