OUR CLIENTS TELL US THAT THE CHALLENGES THEY FACE CALL FOR THEIR BUSINESS PARTNERS TO ADAPT AND INNOVATE...
Having identified nine global ‘mega trends’ that we believe will substantially impact our clients in the future, be they multi-national corporations or more local or national clients, we purposefully reviewed how we combine our leading-edge capabilities to design 18 core value propositions that serve our clients’ needs.
We have expanded our global account management teams and positioned our leading global experts to lead proposition delivery across the world, ensuring that we bring the very best of Arcadis to every client project:
• big or small, local or global; • across both natural and built assets.
Furthermore, we have aligned our global and regional operating models to facilitate innovation, ease knowledge transfer and enable the sharing of best practices. Through the use of Global Design Centers of Excellence, we ensure clients have access to our best
resources, delivering the most appropriate solutions, at a cost that meets their requirements. We are already seeing this approach bear fruit and are privileged to apply our global capabilities to some of the most iconic, complex and rewarding projects and programs of work in the world today.
This document aims to give you a flavor of some of the things we are doing to deliver exceptional and sustainable outcomes from our clients’ investment in natural and built assets; the propositions, the projects and the impact on our clients’ objectives. We provide an introduction to the exceptional talent and people that comprise Arcadis and are the lifeblood of our future. A high-level overview of Arcadis is also provided and I would refer you to our website (www.arcadis.com) for more detailed information.
I would love to hear how you think we are doing, as well as any further information on the projects, propositions or solutions in this document. Please feel free to contact me.
In closing, I would like to thank all our key stakeholders: our clients for their trust, our people for all their hard work and our shareholders for their continued support so that together as Arcadis we can deliver on our passion to Improve Quality of Life.

NATURAL AND BUILT ASSETSThe natural and built environments surround us every day; they both shape and define the world we live in. Thinking of the components of the natural and built world as ‘assets’ or resources helps us define and consider how these can be optimized, maximized or protected to ensure they continue to deliver value for years to come. Natural assets include water, natural energy, minerals, air, land, etc. while built assets define ‘man made’ resources that we use to improve our quality of life every day, from transportation infrastructure to buildings, public green spaces and so on.

IT IS THE BIGGEST RENOVATION PROGRAM TO BE IMPLEMENTED SINCE THE STADIUM FIRST OPENED IN 1996.
Aiming to improve the experience of visitors to Netherland's largest sports stadium is at the heart of this major €50m renovation program. Responsible for the end-to-end engineering design and implementation of the construction and technical installations, this includes widening circulation space and renewing its façade, as well as
changing the overall shape from concave to convex. Applying innovative technologies makes the whole complex more sustainable; including installing solar cells, collecting rainwater to create a zero water balance, smarter logistics management via ‘big data’ solutions, and LED lighting. Starting early 2016, the project will complete in time for the stadium to host four upcoming European Championship matches.

The Hong Kong Jockey Club wanted to become a more attractive client to suppliers, ahead of an expected HK$16Bn spend on diverse construction projects. To achieve this, we helped develop a three-year strategy that would improve their supplier relationship management, introduce better procurement practices and embed category management within the organization. After establishing a new operating model and organizational design, our team then led the new department and drove a broader transformation program, reporting directly to board members for over two years.
The result was greater visibility, a high level of trust across departments, and precisely the beneficial long-term deals with critical suppliers the club was hoping for.

Emaar’s vision was breathtaking: turning an old military camp on the fringe of the desert into a new city centre and tourist attraction, with the world’s tallest building at its heart.
Having already designed and engineered some of the world’s most iconic structures, we rose to the challenge.
We drew on a team of 130 to provide a variety of design and consultancy services for a broad range of work across Downtown Dubai, including landmarks such as The Dubai Fountain, The Dubai Mall and the pedestrian bridge.
For the Burj Khalifa tower itself, we provided the independent peer review of the structural system for the designer, SOM, and eventually were awarded the role of Architect and Engineer of Record, requiring us to adopt SOM’s design and supervise construction.
Today, Downtown Dubai is testament to what vision combined with expertise can achieve.

When Reese Air Force Base closed, it left a huge and complex challenge behind: decades of solvent use for cleaning and repairing airplanes had resulted in groundwater contamination 1,000 times the allowable level that spanned an entire community. The US Air Force selected Arcadis to remediate the base on a fixed-price, performance-based contract. Applying an industry-leading approach to large plume management, including smart characterization, adaptive site management and dynamic groundwater recirculation techniques, we delivered a guaranteed solution to address the environmental legacy at the former base.
We continuously analyzed data, fine-tuned our approach, stayed focused on the outcome, and collaborated closely with the Air Force, regulators and the public to ensure restoration of this vital water resource for local residents. In less than a decade, the original 800 acres of contaminated groundwater have been fully restored to conditions that will serve the community today and for generations to come.

Keeping the process and effectively managing the project meant we were able to deliver a sustainable outcome for our clients, on time and on budget.

The Hong Kong government had an ambitious vision: to create a terminal that would establish the city as a leading hub for cruise ships and generate $2.2Bn every year. It was a project with a tight timeline, and Arcadis was appointed quantity surveyor consultant for its duration. Besides assessing and awarding tenders, post-contract administration, cost control and management, we also settled
the final account. Our team also designed the terminal in the most sustainable way, and green features include a district cooling system for air-conditioning and recycling rain water for irrigating landscaped areas. As a result, the Hong Kong Green Building Council awarded the project its highest rating.
THE GREENEST CRUISE TERMINAL IN ASIA, IT IS ALSO HOME TO HONG KONG’S LARGEST ROOFTOP GARDEN.

After a large acquisition across multiple continents, a global pharmaceutical client needed to identify compliance risks, reduce the discharge of active pharmaceutical ingredients, and integrate corporate water sustainability goals at newly acquired facilities.
Arcadis partnered with the client to develop and implement integrated and innovative approaches that optimized water use, while reducing regulatory risks and operating costs. We developed a global set of robust methodologies and technologies that met corporate expectations, yet were flexible enough to be successfully implemented by local teams across four continents and in a wide variety of production facilities.
The result is a saving of more than one billion gallons of water and several million Euros in opportunity costs, all with improved efficiency and lower risk.

The final project to complete a ten-year upgrade of New York City’s largest wastewater treatment plant was jeopardized by its own complexity. Designing and building a central waste residual processing facility is challenging; doing this within a constrained space and on an
urgent schedule demanded pioneering expertise. Arcadis worked within an outstanding team, using groundbreaking 3D modeling to design a multi-story structure that houses a complex array of vertically oriented equipment, conveyors, corridors and chutes that process and transport waste. This, together with a unique wastewater residual screening system, enabled the city to meet secondary treatment standards on schedule, virtually eliminate plant-emitted odors and provide a healthier environment for residents.

THAMES TIDEWAY TUNNELLONDON, UK
The Thames Tideway Tunnel will upgrade London’s sewerage system to cope with demand well into the 22nd century – and help prevent tens of millions of tons of sewage overflow discharging into the River Thames. Arcadis was appointed to perform due diligence and analyze the project’s risk so that Thames Water could go out to the financial markets to obtain the necessary funding, culminating in a new owner, funders and a very low cost of capital. This new way of funding projects reduces
the price to households and is likely to become the chosen model for funding the massive amount of new infrastructure the UK needs. We drew on talent across our network – from our risk and project cost specialists in the UK to our US-based water conveyance specialists and tunneling specialists from France. It is this collaborative expertise that allows us to deliver on infrastructure projects of this size and scope.
WHEN FINISHED, THE TUNNEL WILL BE 25 KILOMETERS LONG AND RUN UP TO 65 METERS BELOW THE RIVER THAMES.

Winner of the US Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Rebuild by Design competition, the Big U is a visionary proposal developed by Arcadis and partners to protect eastern Manhattan against flooding and storm water. The East Side Coastal Resiliency Project is the first step in realizing this vision. While incorporating
a flood prevention system, it will also deliver tangible benefits to the community, including improvements and access to local parks. As we develop the feasibility and design reports, we are engaging with residents and other key stakeholders to make sure the outcome meets the wants and needs of the people who live and work there.
