Dr.Y.Hari Babu, assumed charge as Vice-Chancellor of Sri Venkateswara Veterinary Uni- versity, Tirupati on 17-04-2017. He has dynamic administrative capabilities and vast teaching and research experience of about 38 years and served in various capacities such as Professor & Head, Veterinary Microbiology, Deputy Chief General Manager (Quality Control) in Oral Polio Vaccine Unit; University Librarian; Controller of Examinations; Dean of Veterinary College, Bidar and Director of Instruction (PGS) KVAFSU, Bidar. Immunology, vaccine development and quality control are his special areas of interest. Life Time Achievement Award conferred on Dr.Manmohan Singh,

former Vice-Chancellor, Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University

The faculty, students and staff of SVVU derive pride on the prestigious rec-

Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University Stands 4th in all India Rankings 2017

Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University, Tirupati was ranked 78th among Universities

of India in National Institutional Ranking Frame Work given by Ministry of Human Resource

Development, Govt. of India, New Delhi. The University took a pride position by standing in

9th Place among all State Agricultural Universities and 4th place among State Veterinary Univer-

sities, that have participated.

Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University along with JK trust is poised to conserve

and propagate the country’s two important cattle breeds, Ongole and Punganur by IVF

technology which involves artificial fertilization of eggs in-vitro in the laboratory and

subsequently implanting the embryos into the surrogate mother cow’s womb for devel-

opment into a calf. In this context, SVVU signed a Memorandum of Understanding with

JK trust on 01-02-2017. The period of MOU with JK trust is for one year initially with a

target of producing minimum 510 embryos and to train two scientists to continue the

work.

A training program on ornamental fish breeding and farming was conducted

from 10-04-17 to 14-04-17 at College of Fishery Science, Muthukur specially for

women self help groups with an intention to improve their income and provide employ-

ment generation. The training programme is organized in collaboration with Marine

Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA). Progressive Entrepreneur

Sri.Gurunanth Reddy participated in the programme and encouraged the participants to

undergo training and expressed his willingness to provide employment at his enterprise.

The Dean of Fishery Science, Dr.T.V.Ramana inaugurated the training programme. The

Scientific Advisory Committee meeting was conducted at KVK, Lam, Guntur on

20-04-2017 under the chairmanship of Dr. D. Sreenivasulu, Director of Extension,

SVVU, Tirupati to review the work done during 2016-17 and to finalize the action plan

Superior breeding rams were distributed free of cost, to the shepherds under

Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana at LRS, Palamaner, Chittoor by Hon’ble Vice-

Chancellor. Director of Research, Dr.E.Raghava Rao, Dr.G.Gangaruju, The

Prinicipal scientist and Registrar i/c and Member BOM, Dr.P.S.Karunanidhi

attended the programme. A interaction meeting with farmers was arranged on

the occasion. Introduction of superior rams increases genetic potentiality and

reduces inbreeding depression in farmers’ flocks.

As a mandate of the University and to reach the livestock farmers with suit-

able practices through a novel concept of lab to land, college of veterinary science,

Tirupati adopted a village named “Balija Palli” on 1.4.2017, on the eve of Animal

Husbandry day. The said village was adopted with a strategic inaugural function,

wherein, Dr.D.Sreenivasulu, Director of Extension, Dr. M.Srinivasa Rao, Joint Di-

rector (AH), Chittoor District, Dr.P.S.Karunanidhi, Member, BOM, Dr.P.Eswara

Prasad, Associate Dean, have participated along with the livestock farmers. As a

mark of initiation, the institution had distributed Rajasri birds to progressive farmers

along with feed on free of cost basis.

Three one day training programmes were conducted for pig farmers during the

year 2016-17 on the topics entitled “Economic pig rearing and Marketing of pigs

and pork”. Basics in the areas of crossbred pig rearing, management, feeding, eco-

nomics and marketing were taught to the farmers by faculty members of College of

Veterinary science, Tirupati and Scientists of AICRP on pigs.

The NTR College of Veterinary Science, Gannavaram celebrated the birthdays of

Mahathma Jyothiba Phule and Dr. B. R. Ambedkar on 11th and 14th April 2017 respec-

tively. Essay writing competition was held in the college on the topic “Mahathma

Jyothibha Phule Social Activism”. On 14th April 2017, the architect of Indian constitution

Dr. B. R. Ambedkar’s birthday celebrations were organized. Sri.V. Suresh, a renowned

Social activist and patron of Nestham foundation graced the occasion as chief guest and

delivered his valuable message to the students.

The university signed MOU with I - web Technologies, Mumbai to implement

smart campus solutions from the academic year 2017-18. The entire process of fee

payment, students registration, GPA reports, Time tables, Scholar ships, budgeting ,

tendering, sanctions and orders will go electronically and all the transactions become

cash less and paper les. Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University, Tirupati is the first to

adopt paperless and cashless transactions among all the universities under ICAR.

On 29th April 2017, a legal awareness program was organized at NTR

College of Veterinary Science, Gannavaram by the Bar council of Gannavaram.

The occasion was graced by Sri.M. Venkateswara Rao garu, Civil Judge, Gan-

navaram as chief guest. Smt.D. Bhagya Lakshmi, General secretary, The Gan-

navaram Bar Association, Mr.G.S.R. Murthy, Advocate & Lokayuktha mem-

ber, Gannavaram and Dr. P. Ravikumar, Associate Dean I/C attended the occa-

sion. Smt. Bhagya Lakshmi explained about fundamental rights of people to the

students and staff.

Field Trip of SMVKR Fisheries Polytechnic students on Demonstration of sea weed culture

A Progressive Farmer, Sri Raghusekhar in collaboration with SMVKR Fisher-

ies Polytechnic and CMFRI, Madapam started seaweed culture (Kappaphycus)

in Krishna back waters on 13-03-2017. Sea weeds are used in a variety of com-

mercial applications suchas thickening and stabilizing in food products such as

chocolate milk , cottage cheese, cream youghurt etc. A total of 37 students par-

ticipated in the fieldtrip and acquired hands on skills on sea weed culturing.
