Greetings United Methodist Women of the Long Beach District! What a whirlwind of activities since the beginning of the year! The January 18, 2014 Local Organi-zation UMW Leadership Training, a joint training with Long Beach and Santa Ana District UMWs was very helpful as per our evaluations. The time we spent sharing ide-as and learning new aspects of our jobs, as well as the fellowship of this wonderful community of women made the morning quite special. We missed so many of our local leadership Team members. Please remember that if you are an experienced Leadership Team member, we welcome your presence at the training as you have a wealth of information to share! We pray that next year, all of you are able to join us as we venture together fulfilling our UMW purpose! Many of you celebrated UMW Sunday on January 26, 2014! For those of you who still have your UMW Sunday worship coming up, may your message be full of joy and inspiration for the work of UMW. I would so enjoy having a copy of each of your churchs UMW Sunday program. Then I will share this with all of those who are interested. I look forward to reading and learning all about what took place in your congregation! I hope all of you have gone to the website for the United Methodist Church and UMW campaign Imagine No Malar-ia. www.BuzzKills.net is the website and Katie Kevorkian is our Cal-Pac Field Coor-dinator for this program. I encourage all of you to have a program and/or special giving for this mission education and health program. UMW supports this campaign! Did you hear all about the Ubuntu Mid-Winter programs? What a lot of useful work was accomplished and strengthened relationships among our members as they fellowshipped and shared a meal and between the National Priorities agencies in our UMW Cal-Pac Conference.
The Korean UMW Network had their 25th annual Praise event and what a glorious time was had by all. The local organization singing, playing the organ, piano, flute, cello, tambou-rines, drums, woodblocks and violin were so inspiring and each organization had a brief description about their work. It is a joy to be a part of the diversity of Gods people! As the Long Beach District UMW President, I have the responsibility and privilege to at-tend the Cal-Pac Leadership Team Retreat/meeting at Aldersgate. What a beautiful facil-ity and we accomplished much. Mission u will be exciting so youll want to register ASAP for this time of learning and being a community of women. Soon there will be the gathering of United Methodist Women in Louisville Kentucky for the Assembly! I cant wait to attend this Make It Happen event with some 10,000 women wor-shipping, working, learning and fellowshipping together for a weekend! I hope I will see many of my Long Beach District UMW friends here! I hope this Lenten season has been very meaningful for you! Ever since I was a youth in UMYF and we had a program on Lent, I have felt the call to take on a new project during Lent. It is always a time of intentional service or spiritual growth. One of the distinct aspects of UMW is that our Spiritual Growth study books lead themselves to Lenten studies. This year I took on leading the study The Call: Living Sacramentally and Walking Justly as well as fasting using A Place At The Table, 40 Days of Solidarity with the Poor from the UMW Reading Program. Both offered the opportunity to challenge my faith and to begin anew. Blessings as you work in Mission! Mary Ross

I al-ways come away with new ways to do things and new ideas to bring to my local organization. Dont miss out on the Mini Mission u Study on The Roma of Europe. This study is being presented on Saturday, April 26 from 1-4 p.m. at Lakewood First UMC, with book browsing, light refreshments and registration from 12:30 1:00 p.m. Dont miss out on this opportunity to learn about the people we know as Gypsies, and their struggles within Europe, and how as UMW we can help. I have the honor of presenting this study. We will be joining with members of the Santa Ana District for this event. A flyer for this event is included in this Communicator.

AFFIRMATION My faith each morning I renew, O God, when I behold the dew That shines from every leaf and blade Bright diamonds set in sheaths of jade. When're I look on fields of grain My faith is strengthened once again, For in the golden heads I see A glimpse of Thou Who molded me. Thy wide expanse of sky, O Lord, Is such a burning hoarde Of blue and gold and purple fire. Such vibrant shades my faith inspire. And when I see the sunset's glow My faith looks up from here below And wings along each sunward ray That links the night with the day.
