The production of poultry in the United Statesand generally throughout the world is carriedout by a highly specialized, efficient poultryindustry that has been a leader in trends ofscale and industrialisation that have takenplace in American agriculture over the pasthalf century. The total number of chickenproduced in the United Statee annuallyamounts to more than 3.6 billion. These arekept for two separate purpose the productionof table eggs. The organisation and methodsused by the two aspects of the poultryindustry are different, and generallycommercial table egg production and broilerproduction are carried out by separateenterprices. Availability of feeds and theiringredients contributed significantly toincreased Poultry production is our countryduring the two decades.

Although non-ferrous pipes have been usedsince about 2800 B.C., the production offerrous materials in tubular form wasdeveloped much later. Iron-musket barrelswere made in the 12th century and cast-ironcammon barrels and water pipe in the late17th century. The use of wrought iron intubular products began in 1825 by theconventional butt welding process and, in1887, Besmear steel was successfully usedfor this purpose. The lap-welding of pipes, initially carried out by hand was mechanizedin the 1840’s by means of a ball placedbetween the rolls of a two high mill. From thenuntil the 1920’s lap welding was the mainprocess used for pipes over 3 inches indiameter. Although an extrusion process formaking pipe was patented in 1836, it was notuntil the manner mann brothers developedthe rotary piercing process in Germany in1886 that seamless tube production becameeconomical ly feasible. Subsequenttechnological developments were directionaltowards changes in the piercing mills androlling the pierced shells into better finishedtubes.

Sodium silicate, also known as water glass orliquid glass, available in aqueous solutionand in solid form, is a compound used incements, passive fire protection, refractories, textile and lumber processing. Sodiumsilicates are solids where the proportionbetween silicon, oxygen and sodiumdetermines what will be the resultingsilicate(s). They are based on the siliconeatom ability to coordinate four oxygen atomsin a tetraeder. Sodium silicates, popularlycalled water glass or soluble glass, aregenerally classified according to their SiO2,Na2O ratio, which varies between 0.5 and 4and with various proportions of water basedupon this ratio, a series of compounds areknown ranging in properties from stronglyalkaline to nearly neutral, and fromcrystalline, to glassy solids, to viscous liquids. The important silicates are sodiumorthosilicate, Na4SiO4, Sodium metasilicate(Na2SiO3) and their hydrates, and sodiumsequisilicate (Na6Si2O7) and their hydrates.

By the application of heat and chemicalagents to ground vulcanized waste rubber asubstantial regeneration of rubber compoundto its original plastic state is effected, yieldinga product known as Reclaim or Reclaimedrubber. It is capable of being processedcompounded or revulcanised. The process isessentially one of depolymerisation.Reclaimed Rubber has become widelyaccepted as a raw material which possessesprocessing and economic characteristics thatare of great value in the compounding ofnatural and synthetic rubber stock. Duringreclamation combined sulphur is notremoved and some of the good properties ofreclaimed rubber are attributed to this fact.Free sulphur ofcourse get removed duringreclamation. The following point are noteworthy regarding the Chemistry ofreclamation. The chemical unsaturation ofthe rubber hydrocarbon of the reclaim issimilar to that of the original vulcanized scrap.

High oil prices, competing demands betweenfoods and other biofuel sources, and theworld food crisis, have ignited interest inalgaculture (farming algae) for makingvegetable oil, biodiesel, bioethanol, biogasoline, biomethanol, biobutanol andother biofuels, using land that is not suitablefor agriculture. Among algal fuels’ attractivecharacteristics: they do not affect fresh waterresources, can be produced using ocean andwastewater, and are biodegradable andrelatively harmless to the environment ifspilled. Algae cost more per unit mass (as of2010, food grade algae costs ~$5000/tonne),due to high capital and operating costs, yetcan theoretically yield between 10 and 100times more energy per unit area than othersecond-generation biofuel crops. Onebiofuels company has claimed that algae canproduce more oil in an area the size of a twocar garage than a football field of soybeans, because almost the entire algal organism canuse sunlight to produce lipids, or oil.

Water makes life possible, and it is difficult toimagine any programme for humandevelopment or improvement that does notpre-suppose or require a readily availablesupply of water. Globally there may bepotentially enough water to meet forthcomingneeds. But frustratingly, it tends to beavailable in the wrong place, at the wrongtime or with the wrong quality. And in one wayor other, all societies are served with anadequate and safe water supply.

Calcined petroleum coke is a productobtained from the high temperaturetreatment of specified feed-stocks. The feed-stocks (raw petroleum coke) are derived fromthe distillation of petroleum crude in delayedcokers. Raw petroleum coke is a hard brittlesubstance, shiny and oily in appearance, very rich in fixed carbon with a very low ashcontent. Raw petroleum coke is calcinedbefore it can be usefully employed for variousapplications in industries as diverse asgraphite to metallurge. Calcination consistsof heating raw petroleum coke to rid it ofvolatiles causing it to shrink to obtain denseand strong particles.

India is a poor country. Government hasfacilitated free dispensaries, hospitals andhealth centers near and around all localities.Though, the Government is spending a lot onthese hospitals, dispensaries and healthcenters, the poor people are not practically, getting full advantage of it. The reasonsbehind all that are that there is sufficientcorruption in our health department.Doctors are not faithful and don’t considertheir responsibility. Generally the costlymedicines, tablets, capsules and injectionsetc. are shown out of stock while actuallythese things are available there. A poorperson has to purchase from the market.

There are two types of yeast as compressedyeast. yeast. It is convenient to use dry yeastpowder for bakeries because its handling issimple and its preservation easy. Dry yeastwhich can be contained in the form of pilletsor flakes in packets or tins. Can be kept forsome time in cool, dry conditions. It isimportant to remember that: a.Approximatelyhalf as much dried yeast as fresh is requiredin any recipe. b. Reconstitution is necessarybefore using dried yeast. This is done bysoaking the yeast is luke warm water at 85oFcontaining ½ oz, sugar to ½ pint water, thewater and sugar used for reconstitutionshould be substracted from the quantitiesgiven in the receipt. Sugar can be omitted, butthe proving is necessary with fresh yeast.

The main advantages of dehydrated onionsare that they are easy to store, being lighter inweight and smaller in bulk than fresh or otherprocessed onions, they are cheap to packcompared with canned goods, they do notrequire refrigerated storage as do frozenonions and the contents of a container can beused some time after opening provided theyare not rehydrated. The newest dehydrationprocess appears to be a variation on the air-drying process and is based on the principleof vapour pressure differentials, using aircirculated around the onions at relatively lowtemperatures to ‘sweat’ the water from thefood. It is reported that this method ofdehydration prevents a crust forming on theoutside of the pieces of food and that the lowtemperatures have less effect on flavour, texture, colour and vitamin contents of onionthan do the higher temperatures used inconventional hot air-drying methods.

Primitive mills and presses for extractionof oils from seeds have been in use sevicelong. Mechanization came with theintroduction of the hydraulic press by theend of the 18th Century. This too wasreplaced by the more efficient screw pressor expeller towards the end of the lastcentury. They are more commonlyclassified according to their capacity forabsorbing iodine i.e. Iodine value. Thosewith a high proportion of double bonds arecalled drying oils, those intermediate incapacity are called semidrying and thoseof low capacity non-drying. In general thenon-drying and semi-drying oils are usedas foods and as lubricants and the dryingoils as paint and varnish ingredients. Thisdistinction has never been a very preciseone and is becoming less so as oilsformerly classified as semi-drying such assoyabean are being used more and morein paints varnishes and other products thatdry in a highly satisfactory way.

Energy is becoming a scarce and costlyinput in the world. Oil which accounts for asizeable portion of our energyconsumption, has been making a veryheavy tax on our foreign exchangeresources. Other than coal, we must also findalternate resources of energy centredaround solar, wind, tidal and bio-gas. Aneffective bio-gas programme leads toefficient use of cow dung for gas recoveryand partial supplement to plant nutrientrequirement. Bio-gas programme leads toimprovement in rural living including ruralsanitation. Conventional bio-gas digestersset up in India were predominently of theKhadi Village Industries Commission Model.Recently Janta Bio-gas plant designed byPlanning Research and Action Division(PRAD) of State Planning Institute, Lucknowbased on bio gas technology has provedto be comparatively more economical.Several Janta Biogas plants have beenconstructed in Uttar Pradesh and a few inHaryana.

The products of steel plants are in the form ofstructural shapes such as I-sections,channels, angles, plates, rails, sheets, axlesand wheels for railways, merchant productslime rounds, hexagons, squares, strips etc.Galvanized sheets, tin-plates, wire-rods andso on. Rails, wheels and axles are specificallymeant for railways which are a largeconsumer of steel. These are specificallyused directly as supplied by steel plant. However, the remaining products of a steelplant, by and large, are processed further inengineering industries before their actualuse. These products are therefore oftencalled as ‘Semis’ meaning thereby that theyare semi-finished steel products only.

Polystyrene (IUPAC poly(1-phenylethene-1,2-diyl)) also known as Thermocole, abbreviated following ISO Standard PS, is anaromatic polymer made from the monomerstyrene, a liquid hydrocarbon that ismanufactured from petroleum by thechemical industry. Polystyrene is one of themost widely used plastics, the scale beingseveral bi l l ion kilograms per year.Polystyrene is a thermoplastic substance, which is in solid (glassy) state at roomtemperature, but flows if heated above itsglass transition temperature of about 100 0C(for molding or extrusion), and becomes solidagain when cooled. Pure solid polystyrene isa colorless, hard plastic with limited flexibility. It can be cast into molds with fine detail.Polystyrene can be transparent or can bemade to take on various colors.

Gold a bright yellow metal with resplendentluster. It is exceedingly malleable andductile. It can be beaten into the sheets sothin that 2,50,000 of them may be placed oneover another to form a pile one inch inthickness, it can be drawn into wires so thinthat a length equal to 50 miles weight just 1oz. It does not oxidize in air or oxygen at anytemp. It is unaffected by the hydrochloricacid, nitric acid and sulphuric acid, even attemp. 100oC. A mixture of hydrochloric acid(Aqua Regia) dissolves the metal. It is notattacked by the alkali hydroxides, sulphurand sulphur dioxide, but is acted upon by thehydrogens, bromine being the most active. Itreadily amalgamates with mercury, aproperly which has been taken advantage ofin the extraction of gold from antiferrous sandin which gold is present in a finely dispersedform.

India is the largest milk producer in the world. From being a milk impoverished nation to thetop producer has been an arduous andalmost miraculous climb. This of course mustbe attributed in great measure to OperationFlood and the historic Co-operativemovement. Yet, it must be observed that theindustry has failed to build on this bedrockand reach the paradigms set by the world milkmajors. The dairy sector is the predominantcomponent in the overall livestock activityin the country.

T h e r e a c t i o n b e t w e e n u r e a a n dformaldehyde has proved to be extremelycomplicated. It took about 40 years toreach the present stale knowledge of thisreaction, and there are still many problems.Urea has a four replaceable hydrogen atoms, and thus a functionality of four, so there arevarious possibilities for reaction withformaldehyde. It therefore have the capacityof building up a three dimensional spacelattice. The molecular proportion of urea toformaldehyde is very important, as therelative amount of the reactants determine,to a large extent, the properties of theproduct. The reaction temperature isanother decisive factor, ambient, mediumor high temperature produces resins withdifferent properties. The same urea-formaldehyde condensation productmay have different applications, whichdemand higher or lower viscosity. It istherefore essential to define the resins as totheir extent of condensation. Thesepossibilities of variations largely amount forthe remarkable versal i ty of urea-formaldehyde resins.

The use of tobacco originated in America, and the name is probably derived from theoriginal work used to describe the pipesemployed by the carile Indians for smokingthe weed. Tobacco is said to have beenintroduced into India in the beginning of17th century. As else where in the world, Ithas thrived inspite of considerable neglectand social disapproal. The genus Nicotianais one of the five large genera ofsolanaceae, and is represented by about 60recognised speceis. Out of the 60 speciesonly two species Nicotiana tabacum andNicotiana rustica most popular and are usedin different ways.

Polyols are higher molecular weightmaterials manufactured from an initiator andmonomeric building blocks. They are mosteasily classified as polyether polyols, whichare made by the reaction of epoxides(oxiranes) with an active hydrogen containingstarter compounds, or polyester polyols, which are made by the polycondensation ofmultifunctional carboxylic acids and hydroxylcompounds. They can be further classifiedaccording to their end use as flexible or rigidpolyols, depending on the functionality of theinitiator and their molecular weight. Takinginto account functionality, flexible polyolshave molecular weights from 2,000 to 10,000(OH# from 18 to 56). Rigid polyols havemolecular weights from 250 to 700 (OH# from300 to 700). Polyols with molecular weightsfrom 700 to 2,000 (OH# 60 to 280) are used toadd stiffness or flexibility to base systems, aswell as increase solubility of low molecularweight glycols in high molecular weightpolyols.

Heat exchangers are devices whose primaryresponsibility is the transfer (exchange) ofheat, typically from one fluid to another. However, they are not only used in heatingapplications, such as space heaters, but arealso used in cooling applications, such asrefrigerators and air conditioners. Many typesof heat exchangers can be distinguished fromon another based on the direction the liquidsflow. In such applications, the heatexchangers can be and be parallel-flow,cross-flow, or counter current. In parallel-flowheat exchangers, both fluid involved move inthe same direction, entering and exiting theexchanger side by side. In cross-flow heatexchangers, the fluid paths run perpendicularto one another. In countercurrent heatexchangers, the fluid paths flow in oppositedirections, with each exiting where the otherenters. Countercurrent heat exchangers tendto be more effective than other types ofexchangers.

Fruit Juices being rich in essential minerals, vitamins and other nutritive factor, they arequite popular. Besides, they are deliciousand have universal appeal unlike otherbeverages. The nutritive value of real fruitbeverages is far greater than of syntheticproducts which are at present being bottledand sold in large quantities through out thecountry. If real fruit juice could be substitutedfor these synthetic preparation, it would be aboom to the consumer as well as the fruitgrower. There is, therefore, great scope inthe country for the production of fruit juicesand other fruit-based beverages. When therapid progress in fruit farming that has takenplace during the last two decades fresh fruitjuices, like orange, pine apple, apple, etc. arebeing increasingly sold by vendors in some ofthe larger town. The demand for fresh fruitjuice is on the increase but these cannot behad easily, when the fruit are out of season.Fruit juices have, therefore, to be preservedin a form in which they can be made availableto the public during the off season.

The lime making process consists of theburning of calcium and/or magnesiumcarbonates at and to obtain the derived oxide(CaCO3. CaO+CO2). For some processessignificantly higher burning temperatures arenecessary, for example dead-burneddolomite. The calcium oxide product from thekiln is generally crushed, milled and/orscreened before being conveyed to silostorage. From the silo, the burned lime iseither delivered to the end user for use in theform of quicklime, or transferred to ahydrating plant where it is reacted with waterto produce hydrated or slaked lime.

Poultry farms are increasing steadily. Manygovernment agencies are encouragingpoultry farming and even short term trainingcourses are organised regularly. Such farmshave generated considerable employmentopportunities in semi urban and rural areas.Marketing of poultry birds is expensive anddeath of birds during transit is the mainbottleneck. This compels most of the poultryfarms to concentrate on nearby markets evenif it means less prices. Instead, if these birdsare processed after dressing and packed intins then transportation is easier, shelf life ofthe product goes up and the product is morehygienic. It is believed that the indian PoultryIndustry is 5,000 years old, since last 4decades it began to witness remarkablegrowth from backyard to poultry industry. Theorganized sector of poultry industry iscontributing nearly 70% of the total outputand the rest 30% in the unorganized sector.

Katha and cutch are produced from the heartwood of Acacia catechu. It is a common treefound in the tropical deciduous and thornforests of India. Katha is mainly used in betelleaf (Pan) as masticatory and valued for itscatechin content. Cutch, the bye product ofKatha industry is largely used for dyeing, colouring pulp in paper industry, watersoftening and in deep oil drilling operations.Kattha is obtained mostly by crystallization incold from the water extractives of theheartwood of Acacia catechu Willd., fam.Leguminosae commonly known as KHAIRtree, which is widely distributed in India, formthe north-west plains to eastwards in Assamand throughout the country, particularly in thedeciduous and drier regions. The otherspecies namely, A. chundra Willd and A.catechuoides of KATTHA is carried out both,as a cottage scale industry in and around theorganized sector. The general principle ofextraction of the heartwood and ofconsequent separation of KATTHA (containing most of catechin) from cutch(Principally catechu-tannic acid) is the samein cottage sector as well as large scale units.

Under thermo mechanical treatment (TMT),the steel bars are passed through a speciallydesigned water-cooling system where theyare kept till the outer surface of the barsbecomes colder while the core remains hot. This creates a temperature gradient in thebars. When the bars are taken out of thecooling system, the heat flows from the coreto the outer surface, further tempering of thebars, which helps them attain a higher yieldstrength. The resulting heat-treated structureimparts superior strength and toughness tothe bars. The microstructure of the core is avery fine-grained ferrite and pearlite. TMTbars are also known as ‘quenched andtempered rebars’, because of the quenchingand tempering processes involved in makingthe bars.

Prestressed Concrete Pipe cater tointermediate pressure range for which themetallic pipes are expensive while RCCpipes would not be suitable. The strengthof a P.S.C pipe is achieved by helicallybinding high tensile steel wire undertension around a concrete core there byputting the core into compression. Whenthe pipe is pressurised the stressesinduced relieve the compressive stressbut they arae not sufficent to subject thecore to tenslie stresses. The prestressingwire is protected against corrosion by asurround of cementatious cover coatgiving at least 25mm of cover P.S.Ccompetes economically with steel for pipediameters of 600 mm and above. It is aunique combination of durability ofconcrete and high strength of steelcombined with economy in raw materials. The P.S.C pipes are ideally suited forwater supply mains where pressures inthe range of 6 Kg/cm2 to 20 Kg/cm2 areencountered.

Zinc sulphate is a widely used chemical andhas been known under the name of “WhiteVitrol”. Although Zinc Sulphate (heptahydrate) occurs in nature in small quantitiesas mineral Glosarite, this compound isnormally manufactured synthetically. It is thecolourless crystalline solid with crystals beingorthorhombic in shape. It exists in variouscrystalline forms of hydrates as ZnSo4.7H2O.ZnSo4.6H2O, ZnSo4.H2O. Zincsulphate is also found in three unstablehydrates forms whose molecular formula’sa re ZnSo4 .4H2O,ZnSo4 .H2O andZnSo4.H2O. The unstable hydrates aremore soluble than stable form. The solubilityof the unstable hydrate is 58.7 gm in 10 gm ofwater at 18oc while stable shows only 52.7gm in 100 grams. The most important &popular commercial form of the compound isZnSo4.7H2O.
