Ferdinand is a cute new movie based off of a story about a huge bull with a huge heart. As a calf he is bullied by the other calves because he doesn’t desire to be a fighting bull. He ends up leaving his first home for a much better one where he falls into place with his human family. That is, until he is too big to participate in certain adventures. He is feeling left out of this year’s Flower Festival and is missing Nina, the girl in his “family”, so he goes to the city to find her. His decision to visit Nina doesn’t go so well with his large size and turns into quite the fiasco. This is a wonderful choice for a family movie night! —reviewed by Ashley

The Proven System for Breaking the Paycheck-to-Paycheck cycle, Getting Out of Debt, and Living the Life you Want By Jesse Mecham I think everyone should read this book, especially the ones starting out in life. The author shares many real life stories throughout the pages so it’s easy to relate. It’s not a boring/hard to understand budgeting book. YNAB’s 4 rules help you prioritize your expenses and make your money work for what you want. After reading it, I just want to buy several copies of it and give them to everyone I know. People get stuck in debt and think there’s no way out, but there always is! Budgeting does not have to be a sacrifice and this book will show you exactly that. —reviewed by Débora

When Stevie is accepted into the school of her

dreams—or maybe, her nightmares—she is excited

to have a chance to solve the mystery of

the century. Founder Albert Ellingham’s

daughter and wife were kidnapped, and

the daughter was never found. Can Stevie

prevail where everyone else in the 20th

century has failed? Has Truly, Devious

come back to haunt Stevie and exact his or

her plan on Stevie, instead? This is such a

fun and exciting book. I can’t wait for the

second one so I can finally get behind the

true mystery of the mind of Truly, Devious.

By Mira Grant If you are as old as I am, you will recognize the tagline “You’ll never go in the water again” from the movie, Jaws. After reading my April book selection, you may want to consider that advice. “Into the Drowning Deep” by Mira Grant is an unusual genre for me to read but I enjoyed its twists and turns. The plot is primarily a thriller with a major dose of fantasy thrown in. The ship, Atargatis, is found abandoned with no trace of the

crew or passengers while on a voyage to film a mockumentary about the Mariana Trench. Several years later, another vessel departs with a group of world renowned scientists to unravel the mystery of the Atargatis’ fate. All too soon, the horrific truth is revealed and they have to cope with a violent reality. —reviewed by Janice

This TV series is based on Margaret Atwood’s book of the same title, and all I can say is that it is bizarre and awesome. Elisabeth Moss plays the main character beautifully and her suffering becomes our suffering. What would you do if you were one of the few fertile women in the country and forced to be a breeder for the leaders of the community? A world where women have no rights; they can’t read, study, work or have their voices heard. Of course it’s an alternative reality, but doesn’t that make you think? Definitely a series you can binge-watch over a rainy weekend. —reviewed by Débora
