The President’s Message
Friends, it’s my passion and honor to be part of all of you and gives
me a feeling of extreme euphoria. We are all unique in nature,
dynamic in action and extremely creative in ideas. When I look at the
history of Apples, our ambition to craft the next world champion in
public speaking from Apples Toastmasters, it assures me that we are
on the right path.
Mantra for success is no longer a secret; to roll...it must be round. In
our current state of advanced technological era, knowledge and
resources are in abundance. The reason only few succeed lies
beneath a clear goal, tenacity and consistency in progressing and
above all, the attitude of embracing change. When we look at Apples
club, we find an exotic blend of visionary leaders and committed
members who want to be the best. I am looking forward to many more
such leaders and members to achieve our goal.

Few months back, I was reading an article on career progression in our company intranet site. One of the tips in the article recommended readers to join Toastmasters. My search for a local club made me shortlist 3 clubs near my area. I requested additional information from all the 3 clubs. Within minutes of my sending the e-mail, I received a reply from VP education of Apples Toastmasters. He sent me an e-mail which had answers to most of the queries I had. He also sent me his contact number in case I had more queries. His friendly attitude encouraged me to attend my first meeting at Apples Toast Masters. After attending the first session as a guest, I made the decision to join Toastmasters. The objective was to overcome my public speaking phobia which was serving as impedance to my goal of being an effective communicator. By the structured learning objectives in the TMI speech manuals, I realize that in the coming months, I will achieve my objective of becoming a competent communicator as well as improve my leadership skills. There are many other learning opportunities which I have identified and have benefited during the past few months.
1) The passion and commitment of our senior toastmasters are a source of inspiration to newcomers like me. It always motivates me to do more……
2) The biweekly TM meeting provides wealth of information as we hear the prepared speeches and the research done by the role players. In this time constrained world, I find attending the meetings an easy way to learn about new books/quotes. The speakers give us nuggets of information which are easy to understand and can be implemented in our lives.
3) The constant encouragement provided by my Mentors, pushes me to do my best…….
4) The supportive feedback which we get from our evaluators and fellow TM has shown me my strength as well as area of improvement. Another important area I have gained is learning to provide feedbacks in an encouraging and positive tone while still not missing on the areas which may need some attention. This has helped me immensely in my professional life.
5) Last but not the least in the congenial atmosphere which I experience at the club. This makes me look forward to every meeting.
To conclude I have experienced many intangible benefits of attending the Toastmaster’s meeting. In my short association with Apples Toastmaster’s, I can perceive a distinct change in me. I am excited

A few months ago I was advised by my well-wishers, to visit Toastmasters club – a place
where communication skills are developed – and I had a problem. I knew that I was a
weak communicator. I will never forget, my first day in Apples Toastmasters club as a
guest. A meeting was in progress, speakers were giving their speeches. I saw various
people playing roles like a project speaker, evaluator, timer, etc. The most wonderful thing
I noticed was that the audience was clapping for every speaker!! They even clapped when
I introduced myself in my shivering voice. The impromptu speech was the scariest of them
all. They suddenly called my wife and gave her a topic. But my wife could speak for at least
for a minute whereas I didn’t even dare to volunteer when asked. In my heart I knew I
could have spoken well on that topic, but did not have the guts to step out of my zone.
That's when I realized I had a challenge ahead of me. I decided to join the club. I now
realize that the decision, I took at that moment, was a very crucial and important one,
which was going to change my life forever like never before. I went through both
Competent Communicator and Competent Leadership manual. I noticed that the word
'communication' I was referring earlier in my life had a very shallow meaning and that this
word has so many dimensions as explained in the manuals. Expressing our thoughts
effectively has so many aspects. Now, whenever I see somebody speaking, I observe that
person through different dimensions. Simultaneously, my son joined the Gavel Club, and
as we together try to complete our project speeches, we have become like classmates and
friends. This is a gift we can give to our children to prepare them to FACE THE REAL
WORLD after completing their education.
For me, the journey has just begun………
