The International Alliance of Guardian Angels, Inc. Reno/Sparks Chapter PO Box 12581, Reno, NV 89510 Telephone (775) 881-2183 Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s), Your child has made a bold decision to become part of a very important and positive youth program, the Youth Guardian Angels. This program is designed to empower its members with urban survival skills. Today, there are many challenges for youth including the risks of drug use, alcohol abuse, crime, gang membership, teenage pregnancy, and dropping out of school. There are few programs that offer realistic counseling and training to help youth avoid these dangers. The Guardian Angels have been helping young people since 1979. Our members learn about responsibility, integrity, teamwork, communication, leadership, conflict resolution, anger and fear management, and discipline. We not only teach these skills, we practice them in real-life. To us, they are not only ideals; they are practical survival tools. The only difference is that regular Guardian Angels patrol the streets. The Youth Guardian Angels DO NOT patrol the streets. The Youth Guardian Angels program started in the high schools and projects of New York City and Washington D.C. We have helped many graduates stay out of gangs, stay in school, and avoided drugs and crime. The program includes some vital life skills training including job interviewing, personal finances, relationship management (including work relationships with supervisors, co-workers, subordinates, and customers; personal relationships; and relationships with authority), diversity awareness, and self-defense. The program lasts for twelve weeks and will end with a volunteer project and a graduation ceremony. If you have any questions or need further information, feel free to contact me at 881-2183. As members of the Youth Guardian Angels, there are strict rules to follow. Members cannot skip school, join gangs, commit crimes, or use illegal substances. Please notify me if you witness any of these infractions. It is my hope and belief that after graduation, your son or daughter will feel more empowered and confident to tackle the challenges of youth and be more motivated to pursue a lifetime of success. Sincerely, Ed Park Chapter Leader Reno/Sparks Chapter Guardian Angels

PO Box 12581, Reno, NV 89510Telephone (775) 8812183

Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s),

Your child has made a bold decision to become part of a very important and positive youth program, the Youth Guardian Angels.

We not only teach these skills, we practice them in reallife.

The program includes some vital life skills training including job interviewing, personal finances, relationship management (including work relationships with supervisors, coworkers, subordinates, and customers; personal relationships; and relationships with authority), diversity awareness, and selfdefense.

The program lasts for twelve weeks and will end with a volunteer project and a graduation ceremony.  If you have any questions or need further information, feel free to contact me at 8812183.

Sincerely,

Ed ParkChapter LeaderReno/Sparks ChapterGuardian Angels

GUARDIAN ANGELS

RESPECT GUIDELINES

Respect is the foundation of personal relationships.  If you build a house on a poor foundation like mud or sand, the house can easily wobble or fall apart.  If you build a house on a strong foundation of rock and concrete, it will withstand the worst storms.  Likewise, respect helps protect relationships from serious damage or destruction.

1. Guardian Angels always respect each other. 2. Guardian Angels respect themselves.3. Guardian Angels respect their family, their friends, their community, their state,

their country, and all of humanity. 4. Guardian Angels always view each other as equals regardless of rank, age,

gender, race, religion, education, income, disability, sexual orientation, or nationality.

5. Guardian Angels always volunteer to provide assistance when needed, without being asked.

trainees. 8. Guardian Angels should show respect for the information and instruction being

presented.  Subordinates and trainees should be serious, ask questions, and become involved.  Leaders and trainers should ask for questions, change the instruction if it does not work, and get everyone involved.

9. Guardian Angels do not fight each other.  Personal disputes should be conducted in private or with a mediator.

10. Guardian Angels do not insult or tease one another.  11. Guardian Angels do not laugh at or try to ridicule one another.12. Guardian Angels always support and assist each other.13. Guardian Angels always encourage and motivate each other.14. Ask politely and express gratitude for assistance.

15. Always be forgiving of mistakes, unintentional insults, or failures, but always respect your own interests.

16. Always seek understanding before action and judgment.

17. Never discriminate against or express bias against people of a certain age, gender, race, religion, disability, sexual orientation, or nationality.

18. Never use racist, sexist, homophobic, or any other kinds of hateful and discriminatory slurs.

19. Do not use sexually explicit language.20. Refrain from cursing and using profanities.

21. Guardian Angels always introduce themselves to strangers who are approaching them or entering a Guardian Angels event or meeting.

22. Guardian Angels always provide hospitality and welcome to strangers who are entering a Guardian Angels event or meeting.

23. Do not interrupt each other while talking.24. Do not ridicule or belittle each other’s ideas and opinions.25. If you are expressing your views and ideas, try to solicit other views and ideas

also.26. If someone does not agree with you, do not attack the person; investigate the

disagreement.

27. If you feel someone has intentionally or unintentionally hurt or insulted you, inform them immediately.

28. If you have unintentionally hurt or insulted someone, express sorrow for their hurt feelings or injury.

Some people may find these guidelines impossible to follow.  They may think that we are trying to turn them into “goodytwoshoes” or puppets to authority.  These guidelines do not belong to any authority.  Authority figures do not necessarily follow these guidelines.  These guidelines are the key to building rewarding and lasting relationships period.  They will enable you to become more respected and valued by others.  People will have more trust in you, and they will turn to you more often for help and support.  Likewise, they will also offer you their help and support.  Those who respect nothing, respect themselves the least.  Building relationships empowers you to confidently share your individuality instead of conforming, to protect your own interests instead of always giving in to the interests of others.
