Procedure text
The social function of Procedure text is to describe how something is

and steps. While, the significant grammatical features as follow: Focus on
generalized human agents, Use of simple present tense, often imperative, Use
70
mainly of temporal conjunction (or numbering to indicate sequence), and Use
mainly of material process (Gerot and Wignell, 1994:206).
Social Function of Procedure Text
Procedure has a social function to describe how something is
accomplished through sequence of actions or steps (Gerot and Wignell,
1994:206). Another function of procedure text according to literacy and
Education research Network is to retell events for the purpose of actions or
steps.
Shortly, the writer thinks that function of procedure text is to describe
how something is done.
Generic Structure of Procedure Text
According to Gerot and Wignell (1994:206) states that “the generic
structure of procedure text consists of three elements, they are:
1) Goal,
A statement that is used as a title to introductory paragraph
2) material (not required for all procedural texts)
A statement needed for doing the procedure which may be a list or a
paragraph
3) And steps
A sequence of steps in the order they need to be done which may use
numbers. It uses words such as now, next and after this. Each step usually
begins with a command such as add, stir or push.
The example of procedure text which shows the generic structures and
language features is given below:

put both feet flat on the ground.
When you are confident you can put your feet on the pedals and coast for a few feet,
try not putting your feet down to train your sense of balance. Do this for 30-45
minutes or so, until you have a good feel and some confidence about steering the
bike.
As you gain experience, raise the seat up so that only your toes can touch the
ground while you are seated. This is the more appropriate height for your seat.
Finally, you have to practice.
Once you can balance, pedal, start, and stop, you're a bicycle rider.
Congratulations!
