As a book wrangler, you will improve customer and staff experiences by insuring their desired materials are in the right spot when they need them.

As a book doctor, you would diagnose, treat, and prescribe preventative care to wounded books in our collection.

Central Library Concierge

As a Central Library Concierge, you will enhance the customer service offered to new library users by making visitors feel welcome and providing directions and assistance.

Creative Consultant

As a creative consultant you will help create aesthetically pleasing flyers, posters and displays that would help create interest in library materials, services, and events.

Cyber Coach

Whether they want to hop on the next social networking bandwagon, try out a new gadget, send or receive family pictures, or apply for a job online, patrons often rely on a cyber coach that can improve their quality of life.

As a library ambassador, you would work side by side with library staff to help enhance the community by implementing programs and reaching out to the Arlington community.

Library Secret Shopper

As a library secret shopper, you will identify our strengths and weaknesses in customer service by evaluating your online, phone, and in person experiences.

As a media caregiver, you will preserve media materials using a disc cleaning machine to insure each item is in good working order.

Multicultural Consultant

Hello! Hola! Châo Cô! The Arlington Public Library would like to be able to communicate with all of our library patrons! Help us break language barriers by assisting us in translating our oral and written communications.

Teen Volunteer Corps

As a member of teen volunteer corps, you will plan events, give suggestions for books and movies and put some hard work into worthwhile service projects.

Reading is fun! As a Storytime Guide, you would encourage childhood literacy and inspire kids to read by imagining, creating, coordinating, and facilitating quality children’s programming.

Actor Are you a bookworm? Prove it by

volunteering to serve as our library mascot, Read! Read loves to go out to Elementary and Middle Schools, community events and library programs to share his love of for books and inspire kids to read.

Group/Family opportunities Volunteer as a family, a church group, a

service club or a business Adopt-a-Shelf: Take care (shelving,

straightening, weeding, etc.) of a specific section of the library– we’ll post a sign that tells library users that this section is under your care

Special volunteer project days: teens and children can participate in special events to “read off” their library fines, serve Teen Court hours, or gain volunteer service hours for school

I like what I see! How do I apply?1. Sign up to volunteer by creating an account on our volunteer

webpage www.arlingtonlibrary.org/volunteer2. While logged in, fill out the City of Arlington’s Municipal

Volunteer Program Application 3. Your application will go to Workforce Services

(Human Resources) for a background check. Please be patient with us, as it can take up to two weeks to complete this background check.

What happens next? You will be contacted when your application has been

approved. You will be able to log into your volunteer account to sign up

for training and shifts for your preferred volunteer postions.
