<ul><li><p>7/29/2019 APA Division 39 Graduate Scholar Award</p><p> 1/2</p><p>1</p><p>Announcement</p><p>APA Division 39 (Psychoanalysis) Scholars Award for Graduate</p><p>Students</p><p>Aim:</p><p>The APA Division 39 (Division of Psychoanalysis) Scholars Program for Graduate Students </p><p>is a new initiative designed to help foster intellectual curiosity and professional development</p><p>relevant to psychoanalytic approaches to clinical work, theory, and research. The aim of this</p><p>program is to promote learning about psychoanalysis, and to facilitate open dialogue and</p><p>exchange of ideas about the future of psychoanalytic thinking, research and practice in the field</p><p>of psychology and the role of psychologists in the future of psychoanalysis.</p><p>Application to the program is competitive and a limited number of positions are awarded</p><p>each year.</p><p>Successful applicants will be awarded 1) a stipend to support attendance at the Division 39</p><p>Spring Meeting, 2) ongoing mentorship, 3) opportunities to participate in a vibrant</p><p>psychoanalytic community, and 4) free subscriptions to a number of important psychoanalytic</p><p>publications and on-line archives.</p><p>Eligibility Requirements:</p><p>Graduate Students who have completed a minimum of one year of graduate training in Clinical</p><p>Psychology are invited to apply to the Scholars Program. Applicants will be selected based on</p><p>demonstrated interest in psychoanalytic theory and practice; strong academic and clinicalbackground; commitment to scholarly pursuits and research; and potential for future leadership</p><p>and contribution to the field.</p><p>Benefits:</p><p>Travel Grants. A stipend of up to $500 to support attendance at the Division 39 Spring Meeting.</p><p>Mentorship. Each Graduate Student Scholar will be matched with a program mentor. Program</p><p>mentors will be committed to meeting with their mentees at least once per month in order to</p><p>provide guidance to Scholars in the early stages of their careers and training. Division 39</p><p>Scholars and mentors will work together to develop an individualized plan to support the</p><p>individuals professional goals and interests. The specific content of these meetings is at the</p><p>discretion of each mentorship pair. Individual</p><p>requests for a mentor with a particular shared interest/focus (e.g. particular research, scholarly, or</p><p>clinical interest, specific psychoanalytic theoretical orientation) will be accommodated whenever</p><p>possible.</p><p>Free journal subscriptions to 1)Psychoanalytic Psychology (the official Division 39 journal),</p><p>2) theDivision Review Psychoanalytic Forum, 3)Insight (the online Division 39 Newsletter),</p><p>and 4)PEP-Archive: on-line access to the back issues of the major psychoanalytic journals</p><p>including: 1) The International Journal of Psychoanalysis, 2) The American Journal of</p><p>Psychoanalysis, 3) Psychoanalytic Dialogues, 4) The Psychoanalytic Quarterly, 5) Gender and</p><p>Psychoanalysis, 6) Contemporary Psychoanalysis,7) Psychoanalytic Study of the Child,and 8)</p><p>Journal of Infant, Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy</p><p>Application Procedure:</p><p>Application Form:</p><p>Applicants should submit 1) the completed Application Form for the Division 39 Scholars</p><p>Award, along with 2) their current curriculum vitae to the Committee Chair, Jeremy D. Safran,</p><p>Ph.D. at Division39GraduateScholars@gmail.com</p><p>Application Deadline: January 10, 2014.</p><p>Reference Letters:</p><p>All applicants must arrange for a minimum of two letters of reference from faculty members or</p><p>clinical supervisors to be e-mailed directly to the Committee Chair, Jeremy D. Safran, Ph.D. at</p><p>Division39GraduateScholars@gmail.comby January 10, 2014.
