Education:

Bachelors of Science in Biology, San Diego State University 2012 - 2104

Summary of Qualifications:

• Educational background in biology and chemistry, with an emphasis on wildlife and natural resource management.

• Considerable time spent in the field and lab as both a student at SDSU and as a student research assistant for the San Diego Natural History Museum.

• Conducted research in a professional setting which entailed the collection and curation of animal specimens, data collection and analysis, and written reports as a student intern for the San Diego Natural History Museum.

• Several years of academic experience with the preparation and synthesis of materials for chemical experimentation.

Relevant Experience:

SDSU External Study, Research Assistant - San Diego Natural History Museum

• Identified and sorted hundreds of insect specimens to be documented for diversity assessment throughout a region of Southern California.

• Independent research focusing on the diversity and general ecology of a specific group of insect. This involved diagnostic identification of insects, multi-layered geographic and biological data synthesis, as well as written scientific reports under the guidance of museum entomologists.

• Contributed to the addition of over 5,000 insects among a library of over 1 million specimens.

Academic Laboratory Experience:

• Preparation of reagents and buffers for various chemical reaction experiments. Methods used include titration, distillation, centrifugation, spectroscopy, and GCMS, including the use of a wide range of common laboratory tools and equipment.

• Worked extensively with live cells, using a variety of microbiological techniques including harvesting/extracting, fractionation, hybridization, cultivation and viability assays, etc.

• Conducted multiple experiments involving PCR and gel electrophoresis. One experiment involved identifying GMO food samples whereby DNA was extracted, amplified, and analyzed on a gel assay for the presence of a specific DNA signature.

• Performed induced cellular transformation using engineered DNA. The cells were made competent and introduced to foreign DNA on a nutrient agar growth medium.

Volunteer Work

• San Diego Natural History Museum, Department of Entomology - Curation and independent research.

• San Diego River Park Foundation, San Diego stream restoration and water quality monitoring. This involved an understanding of common water monitoring techniques and procedures under the guidance of qualified environmental scientists.

• San Diego Audubon Society - Avian habitat restoration. This involved a general knowledge of Environmental Protection Agency policies on wildlife habitats as they relate to urban communities.

• San Diego Canyonlands - Canyon restoration and community outreach. Involved an understanding of pollution and invasive organism mitigation strategies, and addressing these environmental issues to effected communities.

Current Employment ABM Parking Services - Valet Attendant

• Primary duties involve providing customer service to incoming and outgoing patrons. This entails the parking and delivery of guest's vehicles as well as the assistance with various needs regarding general parking and event inquiries.

• As a valet captain/supervisor, I oversee daily operations which involve the issuing and processing of valet tickets and monetary transactions, as well as providing written daily reports and securing the parking structure at the time of closing.
