8. Announcement and call for papers: Progress in Fuzzy Sets in Europe

This is a First Joint IFSA-EC and EURO-WG Workshop to be held November 25-27, 1986 at SRI PAS, Warsaw, POLAND. It is organized by SRI PAS (Systems Research Institute, Polish Academy of Sciences, Warsaw, Poland), IFSA-EC (International Fuzzy Systems Association - European Chapter), and EURO-WG (EURO Working Group on Fuzzy Sets).

The local organizing committee consists of J. Albrycht, S. Chanas, E. Czogala, J. Kacprzyk (Co-chairman), A. Kahiszko, W. Pedrycz, M. Stachowicz, A. Straszak (Co-chairman), and S. Wierzchon.

The purpose of the Workshop is to present and discuss recent developments in all aspects of fuzzy sets and possibility theory with an emphasis on the work done in Europe. Moreover some participants from non-European countries are also expected to attend the Workshop.

The main topics of the Workshop include, but are not limited to: mathematical foundations of fuzzy sets and possibility theory; fuzzy mathematical structures; fuzzy logic and approximate reasoning; fuzzy sets and possibility theory in

decision making, optimization and systems analysis; fuzzy sets and possibility theory in knowledge engineering; applications.

The official language of the Workshop will he English. A proceedings volume is planned for publication after the Workshop.

Deadlines: Submission of an cxtcnded abstract (ca 400 words) in triplicate: April 15, 1986. Notification of acceptance May 31, 1986. Submission of the full manuscript in English: October 1, 1986.

Please send all your correspondence related to the Workshop (abstract, manuscript, any requests, etc.) to:

The registration fee will be ca. US$50.- which covers the participation fee, preprinted abstracts and a social program. The organizers will arrange hotel accommodation in Warsaw.

9. Expert Systems in Computer-Aided Design

This WG5.2 Working Conference of the International Federation for Informa- tion Processing will be held 17-20 February 1987 in Sydney, Australia. It aims to provide a forum for the exchange of ideas and experiences related to expert systems in computer-aided design, to present and explore the state-of-the-art of expert systems in computer-aided design, to delineate future directions in both research and practice and to promote further development.

The conference will have two primary themes: (i) State-of-the-art research in expert systems in CAD, (ii) State-of-the-art practice of expert systems in CAD. The papers with the discussion will be published in one volume by the North-Holland Publishing Company under the title of the conference. intending authors are invited to submit papers, which will be refereed, within the themes of the conference. Papers should present a state-of-the-art theoretical, technical or methodological contribution. Fundamental or innovative contributions are espc- cially being looked for. Submissions are particularly sought within the following topic areas:

(a) Expert system architectures for computer-aided design. (b) Practical large scale expert systems in computer-aided design. (c) Reasoning models in design. (d) Novel representation tools for design knowledge. (e) Acquisition of design knowledge for use in expert systems. (f) Integration of expert systems into existing CAD systems. (g) Implications of expert systems for the design process.
