Annie Leibovitz Annie Leibovitz is a portrait style photogra- pher. Born on October Second 1949 in Wa- terbury, Connecticut, Leibovitz is considered on of America’s greates portrait photographers. She became inspired to photograph while at- tending University in an art class. She photo- graphed John Lenon on the day he was assassi- nated. She also held an exhibition at London’s National portrait Gallery. Ansel Adams Ansel Easton Adams was an American land- scape photographer. His style was that of black and white. Most of his subjects were in the west such as Yosemite National Park. He was an enviromentalist which is why he took photos of nature. He used high resolution cameras as well in order to retrieve as much detail from his sub- jects as possible. He became inspired to capture nature due to the beauty he found within it.

Robert Capa

Robert Capa was born on October 22, 1913 and died may 25 1954 at the age of forty. Capa was a photographer as well as a photo journalist. His subjects were war based. He photographed 5 different wars throughout his career. He left his home due to War World I, so he had early exposure to war. He was originally a writer but became inspired due to a job as a photgrapher. He changed his name from Endre Friemann in order to hid his jewish heritage from the then prominent Nazism.

DorotheaLange

Dorothea Lange was born on May 26, 1895, and died October 11, 1965, at the age of seven-ty. She was an American documentary pho-tographer and photjournalist. Her work was during the time of the great depression. She recieved an education in photography from Columbia University. She shed light to many problems during her time like the FSA.

SteveMcCurry

Steve McCurry was born on February 24, 1950 and is currently 66 years old. He is a photog-rapher and a photojournalist. While at Penn State University, McCurry received a degree in theater arts. While taking pictures for the Penn State newspaper, McCurry became intersted in photography. He became known due to his photograph “Afghan Girl”. McCurry utilizes photoshop to enhance his images and sees this method of photo manipulation as visual storytelling.

Margaret Bourke-White

Margaret Bourke- White was born on June 14, 1904, and died on August 27, 1971, at the age of 67. She was an American photographer and documentary photographer. She attended Columbia University where her interest in photography strengthend. As a photojournalis White covered World War II where she ex-posed the effects of Nazism in Germany to the American Public.

Yousuf KarshYousulf Karsh was born on December 23, 1908, and died on July 13, 2002, at the age of 93. He was an Armenian-Canadian protrait photogra-pher. He photographed in black and white and had a distinct style in the use of lighting. Karsh grew up durint the Armenian Genocide. Karsh lost his sister due to starvation while moving from village to village. One of Karsh’s techniqu-e was the use of lighting. He would light the hands of the subject seper-ately. He pub-lished 15 books of his photo-graphs.
