Location of My Civilization

The location of my civilization is on the modern day, Greece. In ancient Greece, the greek empire had spread to Egypt and Persia. The greek empire had a great leader: Alexander the Great. When he conquered a part of Egypt, he made a city-state named: Alexandria. Eventually, the roman empire conquered Greece and other countries.

Timeline of My Civilization

Ancient Greece started in 1100 BC and ended in 800 BC. There are many periods of the ancient Greece timeline. There are the archaic period, the classical period, and the Hellenistic. The Hellenistic was when Alexander the Great lived. In 776 BC, the Greeks first did the Olympics. The first sport was just running race. As time past, more competitions came out.

Thermometer:

The thermometer was discovered by Galileo. Galileo knew that air expands to cause different things. So, he made a device that reacts with heat and air expanding. At that time, people didn’t knew about celsius and fahrenheit.

The thermometer helped us to measure temperature. The thermometer helped us to make more useful things, like the weather report. It helps us to be ready in cold days. We use the thermometer to measure all sorts of temperatures. Some people like to use celsius and some people prefer fahrenheit.

Map:One of the first greek schools found out how to show where we are on a sheet of paper. The map shows the Earth or parts of the Earth. They knew where to go. They were the first one to think about latitude and longitude. Many greek maps are a lot different from ours.

The map gave impact on our modern society by showing us the location on the Earth. The map also made us think about the GPS. GPS uses satellites to find us on the Earth. Navigators also uses GPS to navigate to different places.

Alarm Clock:The alarm clock that the Greeks invented is used with dials and a pointer for the minutes, hours and, seconds. There was different types of alarm clocks. It was created by a man named Ctesibius. The ancient alarm clock is kind of different from ours.

Impact on Modern Society: Alarm Clock

The alarm clock now uses gears or motors to turn the needles on one place to another. It has different sounds when the alarm goes on. There is also a button that makes the alarm go off. The alarm clock helps us to get up early and go to school or work. There is also an alarm clock system on your smartphone.

I think the best invention from ancient Greece is the map. Without the map, we’ll be lost on the big Earth. It has influenced our modern society by making us think about different inventions that uses maps, like the GPS and the navigator. These two inventions rely on maps. Navigators uses GPS to find where you are and to guide us anywhere on the planet. The GPS is a satellite that spins around the Earth giving information of all sorts of things like, the weather and traffic. We still uses different kinds of maps today like, park maps, amusement park maps, city maps, country maps, world maps, and so on. Maps almost do the same job: to guide us to different places, show where landmarks are and many more. There is also a key and a scale in some maps. A key shows all the symbols on the map. The scale shows the ratio between the distance on the map to the distance on the Earth.
