FRONT COVER ANALYSIS

THE MASTHEAD – It is in big bold letters. ‘NME’ – ‘enemy’ suggests that it fits in with the type of music, hip-hop and rap. It isn’t formal this suggests that magazine is urban style. This isnt the type of magazine that an upper class person or an older age person would read.

THE SELL LINES/COVER LINES - By adding the bands/artists names on it, this draws attention of the target audience. It shows a little insight to what's going to be inside the magazine. The audience will what to read about the artists/bands featured on the top of the magazine.THE MAIN IMAGE – The main image dominates the page. The image is canted angle, this makes the image more urban and hip-hop style. Dizzee’s facial expressions show that he's having fun, nothing serious. He looks like a jolly happy guy. It also shows the mood of the magazine how its positive, happy upbeat mood.

THE MAIN COVER LINE – ‘Dizzee Rascal’ this is anchored on the main image of Dizzee Rascal this makes it clear to the target audience who the image is of.

Barcode-date/issue/price - The barcode makes is look realistic, because every magazine needs barcodeTHE FOOTER – the footer is at the bottom of the page a strip

running through it tells us what else if going to be in the magazine apart from the main story/article.

USE OF A PULL QUOTE – linking the main image to the pull quote seems full of joy also links with dizzee’s open arms gesture

BACKGROUND – The graffiti image background shows that he grew up in grime/rough areas this influenced Dizzee’s music. The graffiti background links well to the theme of this particular magazine.

USE OF A FLASH-(offering something extra to T.A) – It tells us that a band is coming, it looks like a sticker as been put on the magazine. It gives extra promotional information is also links to the genre.

THE HEADER – summarises the content of the magazine and what it has to offer the audience or potential buyer making them want to buy it.

TARGET AUDIENCE OF THIS MAGAZINE

This magazine special suggests that the target audience are part the urban community with musical interests such as: rap, Hip hop, Grime or Street Garage. Their favourite artists might be British due to the use of language used and how it is presented.

Mainly male aged 15-20 due to the theme of the magazine and background, also Dizzee Rascals lifestyle and gesture in this magazine shows a sense of male flamboyance and physicality.

Main methods used to attract the audience are: the language used, very expressive and flamboyant “Around The world man!”. The font sizes and structure and how the main image takes up the whole background. All of these methods link to Dizzee Rascals face expression and gesture giving the target audience a sense that the magazine get the theme/point across to the reader.

THE MASTHEAD – the masthead is big, bold and in capitals. This makes the masthead more obvious and dramatic, this also fits in with the genre of magazine and the artist (rap).

COVER LINES – the cover line is unusual as it isn't in the middle of the magazine and the main image is covering the ‘m’ from ‘Eminem’ this tells us that the main image is the most important thing on the page.

THE MAIN IMAGE – the main image is of the rapper ‘Eminem’ his expressions are serious and he looks like he means business. The way his arms are crossed gives us an representation that rappers are serious and they all have tattoo’s.

BACKGROUND – the background is simple light colour, this is because the magazine wants the audience to totally focus on the main image of ‘Eminem’.

THE HEADER – shows the reader the different artists/rappers in the magazine. This would also attract audience.

COLOUR SCHEME – The colour scheme is red with bits or black and grey. The red stands out and makes things more vibrant, memorable.SELL LINES – the sell lines are in small font, placed around the main image. This shows us that the most important thing is the artist. This sell lines associate to the genre of the magazine which is rap.

Target Audience The audience for vibe are listeners to rap, hip-hop and R&B.The target audience are between 18-24. The unisex colours of the magazine give us the idea that it is for both male and female. The colours of the magazine carry out the housestyle from pervious magazines. Men might see ‘Eminem’ as an idol and women as a sex symbol therefore they both male and female are a targeted audience for this particular magazine.

THE MASTHEAD – the masthead is in big bold white writing on the black background, makes the masthead stand out on the magazine.

BACKGROUND – the background is one plain colour this is because all the focus is on the artist ‘Drake’.

MAIN IMAGE – the main image takes up most of the page. The main image is of ‘Drake’ he looks serious, you can see the attitude on his face. He looks aggressive and very serious. On his top is says ‘unstoppable’ this tells us he is unstoppable and is making his mark, thriving in the music industry.

SELL LINES – The sell lines are placed around the main image this is because the sell lines are important but the most important thing on the page is the main image; so that all the attention isn’t drawn away from the image. The sell lines also follow the house style/ colour scheme.

THE HEADER – This is showing us the other artists in the magazine this make sit clear to the buyer and helps the, to decide whether they want to buy the magazine.

BARCODE + PRICE – this is the bottom right hand corner of the magazine. This helps the magazine know how much they have sold and tells the buyer how much the magazine is.

COLOUR SCHEME/ HOUSE STYLE – The colour scheme for this magazine is black, yellow and white. Its very eye catching and vibrant.
