    Criminal law?

Dont go there if its money you seek?

Civil Law pays far better, three times as much I have heard!

Poverty despair mental anguish rigidity unlove we meet iteveryday.

And thats just our brethren and schwestren at the bar!

    I'm joking!

We are the accident and emergency of the moral world!

People are rushed in stressed, out of control slightly madrestrained at times

We seek to tame their wild asses.

    But what of Jesus ?

"He was despised and rejected of men ; a man of sorrows, andacquainted with grief and we hid it as it were our faces from

him; he was despised and we esteemed him not.

Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows yet wedid asteem him stricken smitten of God and afflictedBut he was wounded for our transgressions he was bruised forour iniquities the chastisement of our peace was upon him andwith his stripes we are healed

Is it better that ten are convicted that none escape the wrath of

    the law?

    Clearly not!

You'd like to meet some people at the bar.

In 1670 in Bushells Case It was established that the judges hadno power to punish a jury for its verdict and thereafter jurymen

became the uncontrolled judges of the facts. They can withoutfear of consequences to themselves disregard the suggestions of

the judge and find what verdict they think fit.

    No logic required!

Our time up yet still mustHurtle not round and round the clockBut off the face, distracted, disenchantedTo another place Leningrad.

Herr Blitzkrieg had much to say

he smiled and sneered as if in playYet with the passing of each day -As if underwater bubbling awayhis speech agarble though lucidand elegant came ajargle

    German, French, Italian,

Swedish, Hottentot and CantoneseHe was speaking none of these

His prose it soared and dived and blewStraight through our ears without a clueMyriad names he dropped and caughtFlashed his chops and dropped us short

By day 3 he told us thered be 3 moreThe gypsy Sailor stamped and swore

One juror fainted hitting the floorTwo passed away would there be more?Lord Talon. Lord Fate. Lord No!

All Hail Lord Fate. Lord Talon.A holiday declared for allNine whole daysThe stars align with Her Majestys birthIn this way restored our mirth.

The siege delayed upon our sensesAfter Blitzkrieg left us senseless

Day 4 the jurors criedNo No No moreThough holidays beckon2 further days our pain wont lessen

Barely can stifle yawnsBefore we slump afloor.

Cruel and unusual punishment indeedWe recall on parents kneeBetter a smack easily forgottenThan the lecture no easy escapeOf kids and adults good and badAnd tales of Johnny Rotten

Full 3 days more he bored us all

Till the ref cried HaltDay 4 a call from the floorStruck him like a lightning boltHe spoke of wholes and yet was halvedAnd halved again once moreWhat was his plan? Who knows?Eh, What? What did he say again?

He spoke of pockets. Of halves and wholesWheels and nights on the townOf breakfast dinner and lunchAnd doing it all againunknown males demand whatunknown females demand whena dragon Puff made a guest appearance andchased them round and round.

15 December 2007 Anno DominiFrom The Pirate [Yet not written]

[written to The Lord of Order of Space and Time]

Socrates distinguished those who pursue higher and lowerpursuits,

Those who have no experience of wisdom and goodness, anddo nothing but have a good time, spend their lives straying

between the bottom and middle in our illustration, and neverrise higher to see or reach the true top, nor achieve any real

fulfillment or sure and unadulterated pleasure. They bend overtheir tables, like sheep with heads bent over their pasture andeyes on the ground, they stuff themselves and copulate, and intheir greed for more they kick and butt each other with hoovesand horns of steel.

    The Fifty

They had beaten them, shot them and shredded them but they wererestored, as if from sleep. When tortured they preached when gagged itwas worse - their captors would cry uncontrollably.

For all of them it had begun the same way. Maui had stood in front ofthem and beamed saying , Youre well hung. At the time it seemed likea compliment.

For a year they walked the land talking only among themselves sleeping, feasting and laughing as Maui entertained them and then each took his

place spread his feet and spoke the word of Maui.

Their civil disobedience could not be tolerated and officially there was noproblem to remedy.

Their hangmen were Russian Nationals-good men, who had beenblindfolded, drugged and flown they were told within the borders of theirown nation to hang a secret society of men known for their depravity andwhose crimes were without number. The Fifty spoke no Russian.

They were well hung at Waitangi in 2009.

The Tangata knew the word of Maui.

With the passing of the prophets - the warriors of the nation, bristle-ancestors stirring..Mauimighty gentle, tattoos, binds their hair of old. Chaotic lovemastersleeps on a mat. owns nothing. knows all names from start to finishbinding cousins strand by strand into one Aotealoa.

Fifty fifty- blasphemy or simply the breaking of bread between brothers.

    Tane sleeps in the forest.

Maui prayed he would not wake-there are old ones reserved for the worstof times.

Maui youre too much, said the tohunga.

  • 7/27/2019 An Allegal Anthology: Critical Legal Verse by a BALLB(OI)

    24/46

Maui took the money he had in his pocket told the tohunga to buy the oldpeople a feed and apologised for departing so quickly but an Aunt had diedand he must pay his respects.

Maui was too much. As soon as he was honoured trouble started it had

happened time and time again. Jealousies spoilt his sleep. People forgothe had nothing and asked for nothing. Loincloth, jeans, cars or canoes itwas all the same to him.

He climbed the highest tree far from all human life and dreamed ofHawaiiki, of aitu he had known.

He loved the breeze and the birds that ignored him.

Maui never felt guilty especially about the fifty. Theyd be back. Now whatwas it he had taught them that had been so objectionable.

Thou art the lords and ladies of the land. Extend thyself

    Where to now he drifted?

Sometime before or after he awoke a baby in the seaweed.

when entrusted to any single magistrate, partialityand injustice have an ample field to range in;either by asserting that to be proved which is notso, or by more artfully suppressing some

circumstances, stretching and varying others, anddistinguishing away the remainder. Here ,

therefore, a competent number of sensible andupright jurymen, chosen by lot from among thoseof the middle rank will be found the bestinvestigators of truth, and the surest guardians ofpublic justice. For the most powerful individualsin the state will be cautious of committing anyflagrant invasion of anothers right, when he

knows that the fact of his oppression must beexamined and decided by 12 indifferent men, not

appointed until the hour of trial, and that, whenonce the fact is ascertained, the law must ofcourse redress it. This, therefore, preserves in thehands of the people that share which they oughtto have in the administration of public justice, and prevents the encroachments of the morepowerful and wealthy citizens.

you force me to grin in my sin

    Your pleas degrade my soul!

Now what do you say your number is?

Ive booked a room for you.
