RESPECT THE IDEAS

OF OTHERS

Even if we all breathe the same air and say hello to a new day with the same rising sun, we all have different points of view.

These different points of view can be held together with tolerance and respect.

About these virtues, there are many sayings of philosophers.

“I speak to everyone in the same way, whether he is the garbage man or the president of the university.”

Albert Einstein

“I do not agree with what you say, but I’ll defend to the death your right to say it.”

Voltaire

“Respect yourself and others will respect you.” (Confucius)

“We must learn to live together as brothers or perish together as fools.” (Martin Luther King Jr.)

“It is the understanding that sees and hears; it is the understanding that improves everything, that orders everything, and that acts, rules and reigns.” (Epicharmus)

Mevlana had a wide vision about nature of humanbeing and the world.

2007 was announced as the year of Mevlana by UNESCO.

All the people in the world know Mevlana as a symbol of tolerance.

He has nice sayings and thoughts about tolerance.

“Your soul is so close to mine that everything you think of is passing through my mind.”

Mevlana Rumi (1207 - 1273)

Feeling lonely and ignoble indicatesthat you haven't been patient.

O tongue you are an endless treasure.O tongue, you are also an endless disease.

Many of the faults you see in others, dear reader, are your own nature reflected in them.

Mevlana Rumi (1207 - 1273)

Come, come, whoever you are. Wonderer, worshipper, lover of leaving. It doesn't matter. Ours is not a caravan of despair. Come, even if you have broken your vow a thousand times. Come, yet again, come, come. Mevlana

While by this saying,Mevlana points out that each individual should be accepted in spite of differences and his/her mistakes, a traditional dessert is like a nice example for this inference.

The dessert is called “Aşure”.

This dessert includes a lot of different tastes:

chickpea, haricot bean, wheat, sugar, grape, hazelnut, walnut, sesame, water, pomegranate

etc.

You may think that these ingredients are not delicious all together.

But they add zest to each other’s taste. Finally a really delicious dessert comes

out.

Just as different ingredients come together and make a delicious dessert, different thoughts come together and make a nice citizenship.

All our wish is to live together having respect without discrimination of religion, language, sex and race.

We are all under the same sky.
