On March 1, 1872 president Ulysses S. Grant signed the bill creating Yellowstone National Park at the headwaters of the Yellowstone River. Since that time 54 additional national parks have been created in the United States. The Alaska Lands Bill of 1980 nearly doubled the size of the national park system.

Even if you have seen Old Faithful erupt many times, you will stop and gaze at it wonder, while the steaming hot water explodes from the rocks.

Arguably the best-known natural feature in Utah, Delicate Arch is a hallow remnant of a solid sandstone fin.

Park avenue features enormous slabs of red Entrada sandstone tower over the surrounding desert like New York skyscrapers.

This historic lighthouse on the subtropical coast of Key Biscayne, Florida, has weathered many fierce hurricanes. Royal palms, palm trees and wild sea grape surround this lighthouse, and many local divers are drawn to the shipwrecks in the nearby waters.
