    URBAN WIND ENERGY SYSTEM

  • Urban wind energy system, wave, a system which generates energy within city landscapes. being assemble and aesthetically modular, the system consists of a repetition of members and shaft sections, allowing a number of different length outcomes. The use of printable and compostable fabrics to catch the air makes the appearance easy to change, therefore suiting changing demographics. The system is placed on top of buildings/structures within a city street, these same city streets provide some what of a wind tunnel, directing the wind flow in a usall two directions, forward and back. The product illustrated uses this direct wind by creating a wave, which turns a shaft then this rotational motion is converted to energy which is feed only a couple of meters away into the already existing power grid.

  • From the point of view of the walkers by..almost sea urchin like, a walker by will look up at the product waving, creating a animated skyline, not just adding interest to the street view, but also a renewable source of energy.

  • Urban wind energy system, helix, each helix is placed on a power line pole, locating it directly above the grid. The power created by the helix is run through an inverter and straight back into the grid.Molded Century Board

  • Urban wind energy system, Helix, made from a material named centuary-board (century-boards products are maintenance-free, fire and weather resistant, lightweight and tough, also their low in costs), helices of all sizes are used for a sculptural, aesthetically pleasing, efficient way of generating electricity. With the use of an elecro-magentic generator, these designs can be placed anywhere there is room (within a citys existing grid) to produce electricity without creating a bad impact on the surrounding environment, actually having the potential to be a product of its environment with the choice of colour, size and profile.

  • Urban wind energy system, corners, Illustrated are the wind flow patterns at the corners of buildings (Source The 23rd Conference on Passive and Low Energy Architecture, Geneva, Switzerland, September 2006), also shown is the reaction the concept has when the wind changes its direction.

  • Urban wind energy system, corners, It is proven when wind travels through a city and around buildings, depending on the direction there is always concentrations of dramatic wind flow at the corners. This is where this concept capitalises, using the building to channel wind into the leading edge of the turbine and blocking wind hitting the falling edge, therefore improving efficiency. The concept uses the height provided by buildings to capitalise on the faster and frequent wind movements at higher altitudes.
