2. WHAT IS MEDITATION?Meditation is a learned technique for focusing attention that brings about analtered state of consciousness. During meditation, oxygen use decreases, heartrate and blood pressure decline, and brain wave patterns change.Many forms of meditation include:o Yogao Breathingo Repeating a mantra 3. WHYThe key to meditation is to concentrate so thoroughly that the mediatorreaches a different state of consciousness.When a person is overwhelmed with stress, life, kids, work, or anything that ismaking them edgy they can meditate to relieve stress. 4. THE BENEFITSAfter meditation people often report feeling thoroughly relaxed. Theysometimes relate that they have gained new insights into themselves and theirproblems. Long term practice of meditation may even improve health becauseof physiological changes it produces. 5. ITS EASY!The fundamentals include sitting in a quiet room with eyes closed, breathingdeeply, and rhythmically, and repeating a word or sound. Ex: the word one overand over. Practiced twice a day for 20 minutes, the technique is effective inbringing you relaxation!
