Box 1173 New York, NY 10156 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE The Alpha Zeta Chapter at California State University, Dominguez Hills continues to show the campus and community the meaning of leadership. At the 2011-2012 Annual United Greek Council Awards Banquet Mayra “Aurora” Garcia, current chapter president, and Iriana “Serenata” Garcia were given honors. Mayra Garcia was named the Greek Woman of the Year for her work within SIA and the campus Greek community. “It was a great way to end the year”, Mayra said. Iriana Garcia was recognized as the UGC delegate for SIA. This recognition is given to delegates who demonstrate leadership and commitment throughout the academic year. This was an honor for Iriana, who is one of the newest members of Alpha Zeta. “Being a delegate was an eye-opening experience,” she says, “It helped bring me out of my comfort zone.” The Alpha Zeta Chapter was also nominated for a position on the UGC executive board. The chapter was elected as the 2012-2013 Vice President of the United Greek Council. “These are truly well-deserved awards. They are only a small reflection of all the hard work of these ladies and the chapter. I couldn’t be any prouder,” says chapter advisor, and CSUDH alumna, Rosa Chairez.
