State of Texas Specialty License Plate

We have good news!!!! Alpha Kappa Omega did raise the $5000.00 needed for the deposit for the State of Texas - Alpha Kappa Alpha License Plate and we submitted our application on May 14, 2010. Here are the next steps:

1. The chapter will receive a test plate which will need to be approved. 2. There is a 10 day public comment period. This is a requirement for all plates sold by the State of

Texas. We will send the web link to the chapter to comment. All Sorors are invited to submit positive comments regarding the plate. If the State of Texas receives many negative comments, we may not be able to secure the plate.

3. The State of Texas Department of Motor Vehicle Review and Executive Director approval. 4. License plate release to market – August/September 2010.

The license plate will be available to all Sorors within the State of Texas. Non-Sorors who submit an application are subject to a third-degree felony if information on the application is falsified. (Transportation Code §502.410) All Specialty plate fees are in addition to vehicle registration fees.

The royalty on the sale or renewal of each license plate, specifically: Chapter royalty Cost of Tag

1 year plate purchase: $5.50 1 year option - $55 5 year plate purchase: $19.50 5 year option- $195 10 year plate purchase: $29.50 10 year option- $295

Sorors, this is an excellent opportunity for the chapter to achieve passive income for years to come. We can utilize the royalties from the sale of the license plates to advance our programs and strengthen our presence in our community.

Again we will be among THE FIRST. Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Alpha Kappa Omega Chapter will be the first sorority to secure a State of Texas license plate. Thank you for your sacrifice, commitment and hard work. We couldn’t have done this without you.

Respectfully submitted,

Soror LaDonna H. Harris Program Chairman
