Written language can be compared to a code. So, knowing the sounds of letters and letter combinations will help them decode words as they read.

Spelling alphabetically OR phonetically. It is important to start implementing both as soon as the learner understands the concepts of sounds and letters.Asking learners to sound it out for phonetic application AND to spell a word using the letters of the alphabet gradually results in them being able to distinguish between the two concepts. They do become aware that there is a difference between sounding a word out(with blends) and spelling it with individual alphabet letters.
