What Is a Dinosaur?Dinosaurs were one of several kinds of prehistoric reptiles that lived during the Mesozoic Era, the “Age of Reptiles”. They lived millions of years ago, before people.

What Is a Dinosaur?We can’t be sure how the dinosaurs sounded, how they behaved, how they mated or what colour and pattern they were.Why do you think this is?

There were lots of different kinds of dinosaurs thatlived at different times.

• Some walked on two legs and some on four. Some could do both

• Some were speedy and some were slow and lumbering.

• Some had thick, bumpy skin. Some even had feathers.

• Some were armour plated, some had horns, crests, spikes or frills to defend

themselves.

Most dinosaurs were plant-eaters. These are called herbivores.

Some dinosaurs were meat-eaters. These are called carnivores.

Most dinosaurs became extinct 65 million years ago, probably because of an asteroid that hit the earth. This would have made a big change to the climate, and the dinosaurs couldn’t adapt.

We are going to create non-fiction cards that you can then use to play the Top

Trumps game!

How to play Top Trumps.• To start the game, shuffle and deal all the cards face down. Each

player holds their cards so that they can see the top card only.

• The player to the dealer’s left starts by reading out a category from the top card (e.g. Height, value 5) The other players then read

out the same category from their cards. The one with the best or highest value wins, and that player collects all the top cards, including their own, and moves them to the bottom of their pile. It is then their

turn again to choose a category from the next card.

• If two or more cards share the top value or data is not available for that particular subject then all the cards are placed in the middle and

the same player chooses again from the next card. The winner of the hand takes the cards in the middle as well.

• The person with all the cards at the end is the winner.
