Every year in Buol theres an amazing festival. Its name in Spanish is La Tomatina. At this festival, people throw tomatoes. Its like a fight, but its really fun!

Before the tomato fight, there are parades and fireworks. People have parties in the street. Then some big trucks come. In the trucks there are thousands of tomatoes.

People throw the tomatoes at their friends and they throw them at strangers. After the tomato fight, people have tomato juice all over their bodies. Then they go to the river and wash.

William: I remember the day when I went to a museum with my mom and my friend. We saw lots of old cars. I rode an old bike but I fell off.

Gabrielle: I remember the day when I learned to swim. I was scared of the water. My dad bought some goggles and I put them on. I opened my eyes underwater and I wasnt scared. We went home and had hamburgers.

She wore sunglasses. The lifeguard watched them. It was safe to swim because there was a green flag. There was a speedboat in the water. It went very fast. Billy was at the beach but the others didnt see him.


Onlooker: David didnt stay in the ocean.David: The waves are too small. We cant surf.Tara: Wait a minute.Onlooker: Tara looked for the remote control.Tara: Thats strange. It isnt here.Onlooker: It was in her bag. She didnt leave it at home.

The bag was closed. The remote didnt fall out in the street.

Todd: Was it in your pocket?Tara: No, I didnt put it in my pocket. I put it in this

bag.Onlooker: Billy laughed. The others didnt hear him.Billy: Ha ha. This is cool.


I Was Scared of Water

I was scared of waterWhen I was two or three.I didnt go near rivers,I didnt like the sea.I didnt swim.

Narrator 1: Andy Wilson is a lifeguard in California. Listen to him talking about his job.

Narrator 2: What is your work schedule?Andy: I get up at seven oclock. I go surfing for an hour

before breakfast. Then I start work. I didnt go surfing this morning because the waves were too small.

Narrator 2: What do the flags mean?Andy: The green flag means You can swim today. The red

flag means Dont go in the water: its dangerous. Some people are crazy. They go in the water when its dangerous. They say I didnt see the flag.

Narrator 2: Tell us about your last rescue.Andy: Last year, we rescued a boy. He was on an air

mattress in the water. It was dangerous. I shouted but he didnt hear me. We went to him in the speedboat. I threw a rope.


Stan: Did you have a good vacation?Nick: Yes, I did.Stan: Did you take an airplane?Nick: No, I didnt.Stan: Did you take a train?Nick: Yes, I did.Stan: Did you go surfing?Nick: Yes, I did.
