UX Design | Information Architecture

Hello, I’m Alison.

A UX designer with a passion for organizing chaos into intelligble design.

Assessment and Initial Strategy > Research and Analysis > Conception and Early Design > Raising Fidelity > High Fidelity Prototyping

About Alison’s Process

Preferred tools:

Problem: Create a travel itinerary function for Yelp.

Solution: A new page, central on the Yelp app that caters to people using their mobile phone to plan, track and remember the places they went using Yelp as their guide, tour and trip journal.

Team: Alison Berge, Elise Tang, Ina Arnaoudova, Scott MorgenthalerMajor contributions: Information architecture and prototyping

Yelp Trip ListsPROJECT

Yelp: Persona CreationPROJECT

As the concept was to add a feature to an existing and very popular app, creating personas to understand our target audience and purpose was very important. After surveys and interviews, we created three different personas, eventually choosing the frequent weekend-getaway traveler as our most likely user.

Yelp Trip Pages Prototype

Yelp: Mockups & PrototypePROJECT

Using the mobile Yelp interface as our guide, we created screens that kept within their style while adding our new feature.

Problem: Create a responsive website that assists busy people who want to cook at home.

Solution: A website that caters to people interested in ready-to-cook ingredients that pairs with local businesses to provide same day delivery or pick-up in store of the recipes and ingredients.

A La CartPROJECT

After user surveys, interviews and comparative research we found a demographic that was responding to the idea of pre-portioned, easy to cook meals delivered… but hesitant about the subscription aspect of the services currently available.

Mobile Prototype

A La Cart: Mockups and PrototypesPROJECT

We raised fidelity to create mockups, then I made prototypes for both the desktop and mobile sites.

Problem: Create a new onboarding experience for the redesign of a LinkedIn-based mobile chat app.

Solution: Starting with a heuristic evaluation of the most current version of the app, we then did comparative and competitive research and user testing to try to both create incentive for the user to adopt the app and to simplify the onboarding process.

Team: Alison Berge, Casey Marvin, Felipe Vieira, Ny Vo

Caliber

Major contributions: Information architecture, wireframing, hifi mockups

CLIENT

Caliber: User Flow Evolution

Proposed flow: Final flow:

Original flow:

CLIENT

We started by identifying the user flow of the most current version of the app, then began iterating what the experience could be. The final user flow takes into account technical restraints to the sign-in process.

Caliber: Ideation and User Testing

After onboarding, users will have created a user profile, so we also redesigned this as part of the process. Using paper prototyping we asked people to envision the way they would prefer to see different elements displayed on their profile page.

CLIENT

Caliber: From Wireframe to HiFi

I then wireframes what the team had discussed, then brought the screens to high definition mockups.

CLIENT

Caliber: Change in Onboarding

Original app > Second iteration > End suggestion

After user testing, we found that people were confused by having to pick one “role” from a list of many. Our original solution was to allow them to choose several, but this was a technical restraint. Our design choice was then to highlight “primary” and make the list look more singular by listing the roles in a single column.
