The Department of Design & Multimedia at the Uni-versity of Nicosia will be hosting the 4th Interna-tional Conference on Ty-pography and Visual Com-munication (ICTVC) with the general theme “Lend-ing Grace to Language”.

After three important and successful international meetings (2002, 2004, 2007), ICTVC moves to Cyprus. Our new home sits at the crossroads of three conti-nents, a location of histori-cal significance that far out-weighs its small size. The multicultural character of the island makes Cyprus a perfect location for a con-ference that explores the world of typographic de-sign and visual language.

4TH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON TYPOGRAPHY AND VISUAL COMMUNICATION

J U N E 1 7 , 1 8 & 1 9 2 0 1 2The Department of Design & Multimedia at the University of Nicosia will be hosting the 4th International Confer-ence on Typography and Visual Communication (ICTVC) with the general theme “Lending Grace to Language”.

Conference Host:J O S H U A D A V I SJoshua Davis (born June 13, 1971) is an American web designer, author and art-ist in new media. He was an early pioneer in the use of Macromedia Flash. He is the author of Flash to the Core (2002) and was featured in the seminal book New Masters of Flash (2000). A proficient illustrator and painter with a passion for technology. Da-

vis’ work brought an entirely new dimention to art. Utal-izing randomization in con-trolled invironments, or Chaos Theory, Davis established a new and unique perspective on visual communication and creative expression, pioneer-ing an area previously unex-plored by graphic designers. Joshua Davis’ work became a major influence in graphic

and web design in the “Y2K” era of the internet’s dot-com explosion. As of 2007, Davis lives in New York with his wife and daughter. He is a pro-fessor at New York’s School of Visual Arts, runs his own design studio and continues to lecture, and lead work-shops at design conferences.

D A V I D M A R S HDavid Marsh is a graphic de-signer, recently graduated from the Lincoln School of Art & Design with a 1st Class Honors Degree. Marsh has a keen eye for detail, a pas-sion for simplicity and is a firm believer in form following function. David is currently based in South London, free-lancing and participating in a variety of work placements.

Matthew Carter (born in Lon-don, England in 1937) is a type designer. He lives in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Carter’s career in type design has witnesed the transistion from physical metal type to digital type. At the age of 19, Carter spent a year study-ing in the Netherlands where he learned from Jan van Krimpen’s assistant P. H. Rae-disch. Raedisch taught Carter the art of punch cutting at the Joh. Enschede Type Foundry. By 1961 Carter was able to use the skills he aquired to cut his own version of the semi-bold typeface Dante.
