If winter was a play, the coat would be its star performer. This year the parka, pea, princess andpuffa lead the sartorial pack. For the ultimate investment, a traditional pea coat is always a safebet – we love Hugo Boss’ navy double-breastedversion complete with grey contrast lapels. For those looking to stand out from the crowd, Little marc Jacobs and ruff And Huddle have puffas and varsity jackets in every hue, from burgundy to the brightest orange.

Over the past few seasons womens' and mens' ready-to-wear collections have seen the humble sweatshirt elevated to high- fashion status, and now kids get a pieceof the action too. Everyone from classic Chloé to quirky Bang Bang Copenhagen have designed their own interpretation of this loungewear favourite. Kenzo andruff And Huddle have stuck to simple graphics and text logos, while mini rodinihas added a super-fun pug pyramid motif.

mini Preen's coats and dresses are printed in their favourite checks and florals, while monnalisa’s netted skirtis artfully embroidered with blue and white flowers. We love stella mcCartney Kids' easy, breezy yellow floral smock dress – just add thick grey woollen tights.

The great thing about winter is the ability to layer and add those finishing touches. For boys we see patches on coats and hats from Penfield, haphazard stitching on Indikidual’s beanies and an awesome mix of rucksacks from Herschel. For shoes; sports inspired high tops are cool and practical, while the classics such as the Chelsea boot and Oxford brogue are brought bang-up-to-date with colour panels, stitching and even digital printing.
