Onceagain, Iwouldliketodrawyourattentiontosomeimportantpoints.

Pleasewouldyoureminddriverswhobringandcollectchildrenfromschoolthattheyneedtoensurethattheyfollowtheparkingarrangementsoncampus.OnTuesdayafternoon,adriverhadmountedthepavementbytheGymandleftthecartocollectastudent. Not only was this dangerous but partly obstructed the path forstudentsandparents.

Pleasenotethatforsecurityandenvironmentalreasons,driversandparentsincarsarrivingatschoolintheafternoontocollectstudentsinGrades1-12willonlybepermittedoncampusafter1.45pm.

ThefirstforumoftheyearwillbeheldinthePACat7.45amand5.30pmonSunday7October.Theagendawillincludetheorganisationoftheschool,IBDPResults,theSchoolDevelopmentPlanfortheyearand any updates on the new campus. Simon Taylor

Itiswithdeepregretthatwesharewithyouall,thesadnewsofthedeathofformerABAparentandfriend,Mrs.Millicent(Millie)AliRusteau.Milliewasamuch-lovedandvaluedmemberofourcommunityandmotherofformerstudents-Suhayl,Luluwa,TharaandHanan,whoattendedABA,2000through2015.

Atrulycommittedparent,MillieservedonmanycommitteesatABA, includingthePTAwheresheactivelycontributedtomanyPTAco-ordinatedeventsandcommittees. ShewasanenthusiasticsupporterofVipers,constantlyonthebleachers,cheeringonherverydedicatedandtalenteddaughtersandtheirteam-mates.Shewaskeyinfosteringstrongercollaborativeparent/studentrelationswithinsportatABA.

Milliewasadedicatedadvocateforinternationaleducationandthepromotionoffosteringinterculturalunderstandingandrespect.ThiswasmostclearlydemonstratedbyhersustainedinvolvementinthecollaborationbetweenABAandthethenSouthAfricanAmbassador,foundingtheannualAfricanUnityBall.

Shewasacommitted,capableleaderandmemberofitsannualorganizingteamandworkedcloselywiththeformerSuperintendent,MrsMonaNashman-Smith,withtheaimofshowcasingAfrica,itssights,sounds,history,cultureandpeoplewithinthenationalandinternationalcommunityhereinOman.TheAfricanUnityBallsupportsABA’smission,visionandvaluesandcontinuestobeawellattendedevent,deeplyenrichingandenhancingtheunderstandingandappreciationofAfrica.

OurheartfeltsympathiesgoouttoMillie’sfamily;herhusband,childrenandherentirefamilycircle.Maysherestinpeace.

National Honor Society (NHS) is Coming to ABA

Agroupofgrade12studentshasstartedaninitiativetobringtheU.S.NationalHonorSociety to ABA. NHS is awell-known association of school chapters that “promotesschoolclimateandprovidesopportunitiestomotivateallstudentstoreachtheirgreatestpotentialinschoolandinlife.”ItisbasedintheUnitedStatesbuthasmembersinmanyinternationalschoolsacrosstheworld.

WhatarethebenefitstostudentswhojoinNHS?

SupportforparentsandstudentswithU.S.collegeadmissionsthroughmembers-onlyresourcesLeadershipdevel-opmentandstudentempowermentopportunities.Serviceprojectopportunitiesthatallowstudentstomakesignif-icantcontributionstotheircommunity(adaptedfromwww.nhs.us).

NHSisopentoallstudentsingrades10-12,butbecausethesocietyisselective,studentsmustmakeanapplicationforinductionandhavethesupportofafacultymember.

Successinsportismeasuredinmanyways:Sportsmanship,teammoral,numberofparticipants,performanceonandoffthecourt/field,enjoymentofplayersandcoaches,buildingaculture,supportfromfansetc.Seasononevolleyballhasalreadyhitmanyoftheaforementionedtargets. Themostnoticeable improvementfrompreviousyearshasbeenthesuccessoftheteamsonthecourtandthesupportsurroundingtheteams.

Ourboosterclubiscontinuingtogrowinstrengthashasthevolumeofpeoplecheeringonourteamsatthegames.

Todate,theABAVolleyballteamshavewon13outofthe16matches.
