Al-Hijra Academy

Community Tree Planting! On May 4th, 2014, Al-Hijra Mosque and School had its first community-wide tree planting. There were 100 trees to be planted and Alhamdulilah they were planted under an hour and a half. The event was a great success and Al-Hijra would like to thank the community members who came out to help on this day. The trees Insh’Allah will grow within the Al-Hijra grounds creating a great environment for the students and community in the years to come. The day was followed, after the planting of trees, with a delicious barbeque. It was a great demonstration of everything our Muslim community is about; unity and sadaqqah. May Allah reward all those involved with the planting of these trees!

What’s Grade 7 Up To?

Events at Al-Hijra!

Grade  7  has  been  very  excited  learning  media  awareness  this  past  month.  They've  been  learning  specifically  about  how  advertisements  are  made  and  how  their  own  feelings  of  happiness  and  esteem  may  be  affected  by  advertisements.  Grade  7  saw  how  images  are  edited  to  portray  artificial  images  of  food  and  other  products  so  that  when  a  product  is  advertised,  an  ordinary  person  is  made  to  feel  that  they  really  need  it  at  that  very  moment.  

Grade  7’s  were  assigned  to  find  digital  or  magazine  advertisements,  and  "spoof"  them,  or  make  a  parody  of  them.  Their  second  task  was  to  get  together  in  small  groups  and  create  TV  advertisement  about  a  product  they've  made  up.  They're  going  to  try  to  convince  the  audience  to  buy  the  product  using  tactics  to  make  them  feel  like  they  are  going  to  be  happier  if  they  had  it.      Great  job,  Grade  7!    Sr.  Sousan  Khaled

What’s Happening at Al-Hijra?

The Prophet Muhammad told his followers they would be rewarded by God for taking care of the Earth. He said: "If any Muslim plants any plant and a human being or an animal eats of it, he will be rewarded as if he had given that much in charity." (Sahih Al-Bukhari, 8:41)

Abu Zarr Al-Ghafari (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Removing harmful things from the road is an act of charity (sadaqah)." (Authenticated by Al-Albani)

Al-Hijra’s First Track and Field Day

This year in May Al-Hijra held it’s first Track and Field Day. The day was filled with activities and competitions for the students and was made a huge success with their great team spirit. Al-Hijra Academy would like to thank the parents and the teachers for the hard work and support they provided. A big congratulation to the students who kept such high spirits and showed great teamwork!
