Bouhanni claims2nd stage victoryOLOT, Spain, March 22, (AFP): In-form French sprinter Nacer Bouhanni claimed his second straight stage win in the Tour of Catalonia on Tuesday after his Cofi dis team set him up perfectly in a bunch sprint.

Bouhanni was released by his lead-out train 250 metres from home and crossed the line a bike length clear of Belgian duo Gianni Meersman and Philippe Gilbert, who wore black armbands in hon-our of the victims of bomb attacks in the Belgian capital Brussels earlier in the day.

Bouhanni extended his over-all lead after the 178km second stage between Mataro and Olot, but expects to give it up as the race heads into the mountains on Wednesday.

It was a fourth win of the season for the 25-year-old Frenchman who also won a stage of the Tour of Andalusia and another on the Paris-Nice, although he revealed he’d been feeling off-colour go-ing into the stage.

“I went to see the doctor early in the race, I had a bad stomach,” said the up-and-coming sprinter. “I’ll have to clench my teeth in the mountains, I hope it’s okay tomorrow.

“There are a couple more stag-es which may come down to a sprint,” he said.

After a four-man break includ-ing Belgium’s Thomas De Gendt failed to open a lead any greater than three minutes, largely thanks to Cofi dis keeping them within sight, the second stage was at the mercy of Cofi dis’ well-disciplined sprint train.

Wednesday’s third stage over 172km fi nishes at altitude (1725m) at the Pyrenean ski resort of La Molina and features four category one climbs.

Overall race favourites in-cluding climb specialists Chris Froome, Alberto Contador, Nairo Quintana and Fabio Aru are all loitering 20 seconds adrift.

McLaren 650S GT3 enjoys further success on debutKUWAIT CITY, March 22: The McLaren 650S GT3 returned to rac-ing in Australia this weekend with the CAMS Australian GT Champion-ship supporting the 2016 Formula 1 Rolex Australian Grand Prix in Al-bert Park. Despite a strong field, and a tough opening race, the McLaren GT customer teams soon got to grips with the circuit and tricky conditions, securing a race win and three further podiums.

Five examples of the 650S GT3 contested a highly competitive grid over the course of the weekend, which marked the fi rst time the McLaren had raced in Melbourne. With the cham-pionship returning to Albert Park for the fi rst time in six years, racing was of the highest levels, and the opening

round proved extremely diffi cult for the McLaren GT customer teams, with Tekno Autosports driver Nathan Mor-

com the only one to fi nish in the top 10.

This early set-back proved to be short-lived, and the second race of the weekend saw a turn in fortunes as the weather played a part in the fi nal outcome. Greasy conditions after an

earlier rain shower saw the grid split between slick and wet Pirelli P Zero tyres, and this deci-sion was to be a key factor in the fi nal outcome. The fi nal result saw Morcom

take overall race victory for Tekno Au-tosports, heading four McLarens in the top fi ve.

The third and fourth races of the weekend were completed in less chal-lenging conditions, but were no less intense or action-packed. Close racing to the chequered fl ags of each ensured the crowds were not disappointed as the CAMS Australian GT Championship continued to prove itself as one of the most fi ercely fought. Customer teams Darrell Lea and Objective Racing se-cured a podium fi nish each to complete another strong weekend for the 650S GT3. The weekend results see Klark Quinn now second in the championship with Darrell Lea, while Nathan Mor-com and Tekno Autosports lie closely behind in third.

Moroccan trio of Ahmed Marjan, Fay-cal Serghini and Younes El Hassani along with rising stars Mehdi Sassi and Mustapha El Maouas.

A three-time runner-up on the MENA Golf Tour, Serghini is confi -dent of shaking off the choker tag this time around.

“I am getting close, very close. I think it is just a matter of time before my time comes. The door will open sooner or later,” said Serghini, who won the 2015 Shaikh Maktoum Golf Foundation award for being the best player in the MENA region.

Mohamed Juma Buamaim, chairman of the MENA Golf Tour, thanked the Royal Golf Mohammedia management and the Moroccan Golf Federation for

their continued support to the tour.“For the overall development of golf,

it is important we have signifi cant par-ticipation from all countries in the re-gion. The Shaikh Maktoum Golf Foun-dation Award, which we introduced in 2014, has intensifi ed the competition among the region’s talent, leading to some improved performances, which is great.

“We also appreciate all the hard work the host venues do in preparing the courses which are always in great condition and we can expect some ex-citing golf ahead.”

Located next to the Atlantic Ocean, the Royal Mohammedia’s Course runs through avenues of pine and eucalyp-tus trees, progressing onto more links-like terrain along the shoreline where the landscape is reminiscent of an old-fashioned Scottish seaside course with small dunes and tumbling fairways.

“Heavily bulbous because of its proximity to the sea” is the quaint way the course has been described by the Moroccans.

An initiative of the Shaikh Maktoum Golf Foundation, the MENA Golf Tour was created in 2011 with the aim of developing golf in the region. It is af-fi liated to R&A, the worldwide golf governing body based in the home of golf, St Andrews, and the Arab Golf Federation.

Multiple European Tour starts, including the Omega Dubai Desert Classic, the Hassan II Trophy and the Maybank Championship Malaysia in addition to full playing privileges on the Sunshine Tour and exemptions into the Final Stage of the Asian Tour Q-School for the leading three profes-sionals are some of the added incen-tives for the MENA Golf Tour mem-bers.
