THE ATTRACTION OF THE CONCOURS
Last month’s article was about the
excitement produced by the introduction of new
car models and this month we will cover the
enjoyment by car lovers when they participate in
a concours. These two types of events define the
life cycle of classic cars. When Jaguar
introduced its E-type in 1961, it drew a collective
WOW! in the automotive world. Any concours
showing this model since its end of production in
1975 would generate the admiration that is
common to all classic cars: “They don’t make
them like that anymore!”
The pleasure derived from a concours is
made possible by the extraordinary work of
conservation and restoration carried out by
devoted car enthusiasts. We are fortunate to
have Ivan Ruiz and other restorers in our club
and we salute them for their dedication to this
endeavor. In fact, to undertake and finish a car
restoration project provides additional
satisfaction to the appreciation of the gleaming
end product: The magic of preserving a fine car
from the past to its initial glory by your own
efforts.
This March several couples from our club
attended the famous Amelia Island Concours and
had a wonderful time, telling us at the monthly
meeting of the great experiences they shared at
this venue. The fun of admiring the beautiful
cars is enhanced by all the other activities – the
auction, the award presentations, social events,
etc. To say that Amelia Island is just another
concours is like saying that the Kentucky Derby
is just another horse race.
In October we will have our AJS Concours
d’Elegance, a gathering that provides our
members the fun of a college homecoming in the
fall. In displaying the fine models that have
characterized Jaguar over the years we express
our admiration for our namesake marque.
Indeed, to quote Keats: “A thing of beauty is a
joy forever.”
Sheila’s Corner Member News
By Sheila Brower, Health & Hospitality Director
Irene and Ken Carr flew to New York on a 4-
day visit to see his son's family in Croton-on-
Hudson. The two granddaughters, ages 2 and 4,
proved to be a delightful handful to the proud
grandparents.
Dick and Alice Thyer are taking one day at a
time but are definitely seeing better days ahead.
Alice recently had knee surgery and Dick has
completed prostate cancer therapy.
Rebecca, wife of Rick Duff, has returned to
work after cancer therapy. She is a real estate
developer as well as an agent.
Don and Marlene Hart are planning a cruise
to Italy, Spain, and Portugal. They plan to leave
April 6 and return on the 29th.
Ted and Rita Anderson are planning a
Caribbean cruise in the near future.

Paul Brower has been elected Chairman of
the Georgia Real Estate Commission. He was
appointed by Governor Deal in 2011 to a 5-year
term on the commission which regulates real
estate licensees. He and Sheila will be leaving
for a trip to Scottsdale, AZ for a meeting with
other real estate licenses law officials.
Vail Frost fell on his dock and broke his leg
and fractured an ankle.
Two past presidents now have Medicare!
Vinnie Lauria and Alan Talbott.
THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS:
John Steen passed away March 26th. For
those new to the club John founded our club in
1977 and was Chairman. He and Mary Ruth
both played prominent roles in the club until
recent years.

ACTIVITIES By Ted Anderson, Activities Director
The Classic Motor Sports Mitty
The CLASSIC MOTOSPORTS MITTY, to
be held the weekend of April 26-28, 2013, at
Road Atlanta. This long weekend will be filled
with action and the perfect opportunity to meet
friends as well as to make new ones. Historic
Sports car Racing (HSE) is the on-track action
while the Classic Motorsports infield events are
organized by the Classic Motorsports staff.
Vintage racing is a passion shared by all who are
involved, i.e., the drivers, crew members and
spectators. By the end of the day, you will have
seen at least one of your favorite groups at speed
which includes the Shelby, Porsche, Triumph,
MG. Alpha Romeo, Corvette, BMW, and of
course, Jaguar.
The infield will offer interesting
entertainment. Saturday night the President of
PRS Guitars, Jack Higginbotham, will play a set
with his band and the Kitty’s infield will feature
car club corrals, no-charge test drives, tech talks,
and more surprises that you won’ want to miss
out on. You might even want to join your
friends and participate in one of the weekend’s
parade laps.
