Welcome Welcome to AJ Island, a unique place where ordinary people can do extraordinary things. AJ Island is named after a cultural icon named AJ the Little Gombey. AJ the Little Gombey represents worldwide unity and peace using story-telling, music, fashion and dance. AJ the Little Gombey combines traditional arts from Africa, Asia, Europe and the Americas to achieve harmony and balance. AJ the Little Gombey is simply irresistible because he appeals to the inner child in all of us. AJ Island is the ideal environment for self-discovery of these universal virtues. AJ Island is a super-microcosm of global collaboration. In this virtual community, we all have a chance to celebrate big ideas in a miniaturized way. Small truly is beautiful! And we are open enough to share our experiences with a global audience. As an AJ Ambassador you can play a big part in the expansion of this project. AJ the Little Gombey is not just a character; he embodies the spirit of love toward our fellow man. As you find your way around our island home, we invite you to “feel the love” and to “make your mark” using the cultural icons of your choosing. And always feel free to follow the Gombey drum as you discover the rhythm of your own personal calling in life!

Overview AJ Island is a virtual destination that exists in cyberspace to promote “unity in the community worldvibe, fighting with peace and not for it”. The destination is designed to accommodate a variety of internet technologies and artforms connected with the social media of the digital age. But the essence of AJ Island is inspired by the legacy of the Bermuda CultureFest, a grassroots festival that evolved into a national event for the people of Bermuda in the 1990s. The Bermuda CultureFest was held at an abandoned seaport for the British Admiralty known as the Royal Naval Dockyard on the north-westernmost island in the chain which comprises Bermuda, called Ireland Island. This island is now the dominant hub for the cruise industry in Bermuda and houses major cultural attractions including shopping arcades, restaurants, museums, art galleries and recreational outlets. The Royal Naval Dockyard serves as the metaphorical blueprint for AJ Island, and provides the impetus for Ireland Island to be nicknamed AJ Island for the duration of Bermuda CultureFest. At its maximum occupancy, Bermuda CultureFest will host about 10,000 cultural ambassadors and a post office, an emergency services crew, a volunteer police department, roads, houses, bars, clubs, restaurants, and dozens of cultural installations and participatory "theme camps". After a week, the festival is completely disassembled leaving the austere naval architecture of Ireland Island exactly as pristine as it had been when the event started. During the “limbo season” of Bermuda CultureFest, the promotional activity of AJ Island continues unabated in cyberspace where plans are made for future expansion.

The Scenario

AJ Island is the epicentre of a virtual-reality scenario motion picture (SMP) campaign that is driven by conflict-neutral policies and practices that help its stakeholders to fulfill the UN Millennium Development Goals of poverty elimination around the world. Like the Magic Kingdom in Disney World, AJ Island embodies the ethos of an entertainment industry studio sound stage that is also a theme park. But unlike the Magic Kingdom, AJ Island is dedicated to the twin concepts that "small is beautiful" and that "truth is stranger than fiction". At AJ Island, we use a pristine, immersive, protective island setting to design a world class "eco-studio" that is the springboard for a range of SMP documentaries showing how Bermuda's uniquely gifted social history can transform the global discussion about sustainable development.

KatKing Productions KatKing Productions (KatKing) is the local promoter of AJ Island using iconic imaging, storytelling and folklore to capture the imagination of the audience and then engages "appreciative inquiry" to create bridge the gap between creativity and problem-solving.

AJ the Little Gombey Kat King has created a community mascot named AJ the Little Gombey to symbolize "unity in the community". This mascot uses Gombey culture to show how African, European and Native American cultures can be combined to create an entirely new mode of expression that is universal in scope. AJ

Island is named after this icon to set the stage for the emergence of AJ the Little Gombey as the pre-eminent “virtual reality celebrity” of a pristine multimedia environment.

The AJ Action Team Kat King has created an AJ Action Team to lead the AJ Island project. The AJ Action Team is a group of entrepreneurs, humanitarians, civil rights activists, peace ambassadors, film-makers, performers and artists who have come together to find working solutions to some of the world’s social and economic problems using celebrity, technology, charity, social media and art, to progress the UN Millennium Development Goals 2015. The AJ Action Team is specifically set up to work in and from Bermuda as our central hub to the world. Africa is the universally acknowledged priority in reversing poverty, but racial barriers inhibit the responsiveness of dominant institutions. We aim to use the spiritual closure provided by the UN Recognized Middle Passage Monument Project in international waters near Bermuda to break the racial stalemate and focus on solutions. Key members of the AJ Action team include:

● Duvall Spencer (KatKing Internation)● Andrew Williams, Jr (ParXTC, LLC)● Donna Bennett (A Partnership for Peace)● Stevie Eagle (Shlepp Records)● Les Hamasaki (Clean Energy Institute)● Alicia Hamilton (Hamilton Group Media)

AJ Ambassadors of the Future The citizens of AJ Island are called “Ambassadors of the Future”. All AJ Ambassadors are encouraged to strengthen mutual understanding between various cultures and make a positive contribution to social development using the folklife experiences as a tool for improved collaboration.

Why Bermuda? The AJ Action Team brings a global perspective to the AJ Island project. The following reasons have been agreed by team members as the basis for prioritizing the Bermuda strategy:

● The AJ Action Team is looking at global solutions that work locally. Solutions that everyday people can see working for them. Bermuda is small enough for us to implement many of our groundbreaking ideas and broadcast them to the entire world. It’s mixed and diverse population mirrors many large urban populations like NY, London, Paris who are experiencing urban violence, social unrest and other social and civil issues amongst their populace. Bermuda is now beginning to experience the same sort of unrest.

● Bermuda is one of the earliest established and longest surviving forms of English constitutional self‐government in the Western Hemisphere, having a 400 year parliamentary tradition (established in 1612) that survived the disruption of the 1707 Acts of Union in Great Britain, the American Revolution and the decolonization era. This means that what is achieved there is achieved under a system of government that many western governments understand and trust and cannot dismiss.

● Bermuda was settled by English Adventurers to establish a foothold for a "Western Empire" that would compete for prestige with dominant European powers. Over time, Bermuda has evolved into a cosmopolitan island city‐state with the capacity to be a bastion of social reconciliation,

5

peace‐building and creative capitalism for all peoples.● Bermuda is an overseas territory of the United Kingdom with a restrictive observer status

at most levels of international diplomacy. This rare status enables Bermuda to operate as a strategic "outlier" of "super‐diplomacy" where individual integrity brings balance to the traditional pragmatics of comparative advantage.

● Bermuda's unique balance of natural, technological and human factors has enabled its people to enjoy one of the wealthiest per capita income economies in the world. This unique wealth profile can be leveraged into parallel markets for risk transfer, knowledge management and ecommerce solutions with a high degree of flexibility, agility and efficiency compared to its closest competitors.

● Bermuda is still an undiscovered island for most people in the West, but there is a universal interest in the infamous "Bermuda Triangle" that has been glamorized by Hollywood since the 1950s. This notoriety can be tapped into by entertainment industry players to create a "parallel universe" in popular imagination that facilitates new ideas about creativity and storytelling. The AJ Island project that can "suspend disbelief" while also inspiring the audience to attain far reaching goals such as the elimination of poverty.

What do we aim to achieve?

● There are several goals that the AJ Action team has developed that will have far reaching effects globally. We have highlighted the role that tele-villages can play to help the people of Haiti who need housing after the earthquake. However, many Bermudians also need alternative community architectures based on “new urbanism” rather than suburban sprawl. By setting up a special televillage prototype in Bermuda we establish a hub from which we can deliver these solutions to the people in Haiti and all over the world that need them urgently while at the same time providing solutions for the people of Bermuda. Our current goal is to situate a model at the Royal Naval Dockyard on Ireland Island that will be an example for other island communities.

● Our aim is not just to provide tele-villages but to teach people worldwide how they can live in greener way using solar power, waste management etc. The tele-villages can be used as learning centers, hospitals, nurseries etc. They can also be used as media hubs and we intend to set up a network of tele-villages based on our Bermuda prototype in conjunction with our celebrity Icon (Chinese star) Ayi Jihu we shall attract the eyes of the worldwide media and other stars and celebrities to our network.

● The AJ Action Team will to work with international heroes, artists, civil leaders and people to engage the youth and people of the world through social media, music, film and dance. Helping to put AJ Island on the international map for its unique approach to culture, music, art and history.

● The AJ Action Team would call our approach an "eco‐industry" model rather than an "eco‐tourism" model because the green technology at our disposal is needed by permanent/transient residents at the moment, more than tourists. We are also using the technology to introduce new self‐employment skills in both the physical and knowledge industries. We aim to show how these can and will work using AJ Island as the virtual reference point before taking these working solutions global.

How do we achieve our goals? The AJ Action Team has a working relationship with Spanish Town Entertainment to create a master plan for community empowerment based on the legacy of "unity in the community" that originated with the Bermuda CultureFest. In addition, we are partnering with the US-based organization called "A Partnership for Peace" to focus on eco‐industry events year round, beginning with the Bermuda CultureFest on June 16-18, 2012 at the Royal Naval Dockyard.Appendix I The Sally Port Eco Sandbox, Bermuda

Background The infamous Sallyport dump in the West End for horticultural and metallic wastes, is very close to the Dockyard which attracts hundreds of thousands of tourists each year, yet does not seem to be an environmental concern in Bermuda, as it would be in North America or Europe. Incredibly, despite this, the Snorkel Park water site was established here for locals and tourists. With the history of the dump, such a facility would not be allowed in the UK, USA or Canada. One of the grimmest places in Bermuda. Dumping has been illegal there since the Tynes Bay incinerator opened but is still carried on secretly - and much junk is still there. Much earlier, it was a Royal Navy dump site, cleaned up at British UK taxpayer expense when the Royal Navy left. Under Bermuda Government control now, there have been mounds of discarded metal and plastic piping, truck chassis and old engines. Other heavy industrial garbage was literally spilling into the ocean across a 150 yard stretch of coastline at the dump. In places, ocean water had a metallic sheen. (www.bermuda-online.org)

Sally port (From Wikipedia) The primary modern meaning for sally port is a secure, controlled entryway, as at a fortification or a prison. The entrance is usually protected in some way, such as with a fixed wall blocking the door which must be circumvented before entering, but which prevents direct enemy fire from a distance. It may include the use of two doors such as with an airlock.In older days a "sally port" was sort of a dock where boats would pick up a ship's crew and ferry them to the vessel, or vice versa, anchored offshore. (British navy, ca. 1600 to 1900), but it is used that way still especially in coastal Great Britain. However there are not many "old" sally ports left.

Etymology and historical usageThe word port is ultimately from Latin porta for door. Often the term postern is used synonymously. It can also mean an underground tunnel, or passage (i.e. a secret exit for those besieged). A sally, ultimately derived from Latin salīre (to jump), or sortie, is a military maneuver, typically during a siege, made by a defending force to harass isolated or vulnerable attackers before retreating back behind their defenses. Sallies are a common way for besieged forces to reduce the strength and preparedness of a besieging army; a sally port is therefore essentially a door in a castle or city wall that allows troops to make sallies without compromising the defensive strength of the fortifications.[1] Targets for these raids included tools which could be captured and used by the defenders, labor-intensive works such as trenches and mines, and siege engines and siege towers. Sometimes enemy laborers were also targeted. Often, the besiegers' beer and food supplies would be stolen or, if they were too bulky to transport, urinated in.[citation needed]

Modern usageModern personnel sally ports are used to control entry into highly protected and restricted military areas, e.g. nuclear weapons storage areas, highly sensitive (and large) conventional weapons storage areas, e.g. small arms, munitions, etc. Sally ports are also used to control entry to highly valuable civilian facilities such as currency or credit card manufacturing sites. A guard in a protected location (today usually physically remote from the actual sally port) will have control over the middle space between the two doors; the operation of the doors of the sally port; and the movement of all persons, materials and/or vehicles through the sally port. This sally port guard will have the means to check the personnel escorts and/or the credentials of all those persons, materials and vehicles to be passed into the protected space through the first opened door, prior to its opening. He will then monitor the sally transit to ensure that:

1. no more than the maximum allowed number of verified individuals/materials or vehicles are permitted and actually do transit into the middle space at any one time;

2. all persons vehicles and/or materials are cleared by the controller of the interior protected space (a second, separate individual from the controller of the sally port) to enter that secured space prior to the un-locking and/or opening of the second door;

3. the first opened door to the sally port is closed locked and secured prior to unlocking and/or opening the second door; and

4. the guard will ensure after the completion of a transit movement of persons, materials and/or vehicles through the sally port, that the middle space of the sally port is clear (empty) of all persons, materials, or vehicles prior to his securing (closing/locking) of the second door, to await the next movement through the sally port.

13

Page 14: AJ island Bermuda, AJ Ambassadors, AJ Action Team

Sally ports must be used with caution, and transit through them must be carefully monitored during any emergency or non-routine movements. The greatest safety hazard in use of these passageways is the danger of overcrowding the middle space between the doors. Since either door can only be opened while the other is closed and locked, overcrowding may occur in the middle space when too many persons, vehicles or materials attempt to enter it at once. Once the middle space is overcrowded, it may be impossible to properly close and lock the first door, thereby also making it impossible to open the second door, which of course is the only way by which people, vehicles or materials can successfully exit the controlled area. Even when the sally port has over-rides installed within the door controls and locking apparatus, the size of the middle space and the physical dimensions and layout of the door openings will act to hamper quick egress of a controlled space through a sally port type opening. Because of this danger, controlled spaces protected by sally ports usually have multiple sally port openings, safety zones within the controlled space (for internal evacuation w/o leaving the controlled area), and formally written and routinely practiced procedures for the evacuation of persons, vehicles or materials. There is also continuous supervision and monitoring of the total number of persons, vehicles or materials within the controlled space to ensure that the designed evacuation maximum (by whatever evacuation procedure) is never exceeded. Sally ports are also used to restrict the flow of people to one at a time so that intruders cannot pass into the classified or secure area on a cleared person's coattails. Military vehicular sally ports are similar to the personnel sally ports but have, of physical necessity, a large middle space to control the incoming/outgoing vehicle and personnel mounted in the vehicle. Mounted personnel are made to stand down, and the vehicles are inspected by guards. If the person or vehicle in the middle space is found to be unauthorized, the guard can "lock down" both gates, trapping the individual in question until a guard or police response force can neutralize and remove the person and/or vehicle. A sally port appears on the Coat of Arms of the Republic of Malta In the modern court building, a sally port secures the prisoners in a holding area or brings them directly from the jail area separating them from the court, with entry through the sally port controlled by the bailiff.In "supermax" correctional facilities, groups of inmate cells may be connected to central corridors via sally ports. An officer behind protective glass opens the port doors individually after verifying that the person is allowed to pass. Police departments may have an enclosed garage or other access point at a private door leading to their building so that an arrested person cannot try to run away as he is being transferred between a patrol car and a holding cell.[2]
