Did the Trojan War happen?To Ancient Greeks the Trojan War was definitely an historical event. They believed that the legends they heard were documentation from their ancestors about a city called Troy located in modern day Turkey. Within 1000 years most people believed that it was simply an epic poem like many Greek Myths, culturally believed but not historically accurate.

Then in 1870 a German archaeologist excavated a site he believed was Troy. He discovered nine cities, each built on top of the other after they were destroyed. Many scholars today believe that the 7th city’s design was similar to Homer’s depiction and was destroyed around the same time. However, the city was clearly destroyed by an earthquake which causes more controversy
