Wise uses alliteration to show time passing in the gas chamber.For example, “all eyes watching, wondering.”The alliteration “watching, wondering” has the effect of slowing the pace of the poem, the reader is placed alongside those in the gas chamber waiting for what is to come. For reader this line create empathy with those in the gas chamber, as well as nervousness and anxiety about what is to come.
