Air Navigation is changing, and so is the provision of Aeronautical Information. Highqualityaeronauticalinformationisa pre-requisiteforthenewtoolsthataircraftandATMsystemswillusetoprovidemore services to more aircraft in the same airspace at the same time.Wearewitnessingtheearlystagesofthisnewmodeofoperationwithtoday’sPBN andRNAVprogrammes,whichhaveanincreasedrelianceonthereadyavailabilityofquality-assureddata.

Importance of completeness of DDR and SDR: The SDRandDDRareconnected.ThismeansthatallNOTAMaffectingDataincludedintheSDRaredigitallylinkedtothatData.Thisallows,forexample,moreefficientandaccuratePIBgenerationorNOTAMgeographicreferencevalidation.Itisextremelyimportantthatbothdatabasesarecompleteandaccurate,otherwisethesystemshowserrorsandinformationmightbelostintheprocess.

Worldwide NOTAM:TheDDRhastoincludeworldwideNOTAM.Otherwiseretrievalofinformationmightbenotcomplete.Forthis,databaseconnectiontootherdatabaseshastobemanaged,andNOTAMvalidationhastobeperformed.

Worldwide Static Data:Althoughnotallstaticdataisrequired,akeysubsetofworldwidedataisneededforthecorrectstoringandfunctioningoftheDDR.Thesedatais,forexample,routes,airports,airspaces,boundaries,NavAids,etc.Datahastobevalidatedandcanberetrievedeitherbyconnectiontootherdatabasesorbymanualinputand/orupdate.

System Update:MostAIMSystemsrepresentthe“stateoftheart”today.Buttheywon’tbetomorrow.Newinternationalrequirements’implementationneedsofsystemchangesdefinition,coordinationwithITprovider,systemtesting,implementationofchangesandnewproceduresdefinition.Theriskistobeleftbehindandnotmeetfuturerequirements.Withoutongoingupgradestokeeppacewithroadmapdevelopments,yourAIMsystemisatriskofbecominganisolatedisland.
