he election of EBs for AIESEC-LC-HKUST 1011 is in
progress. As an AIESECer, how much do you know about
the next session?
The Progress:
In the 1st round application, all 20 applicants passed sucessfully. After tens of
hundreds of meetings and transitions, came the very important day - 8th
March. It was the deadline for the 2nd round application, which was a chance
for the future leaders applying for their future roles. On 24th April, a rough
idea about the direction and activities of AIESEC 1011 will be presented to all
AIESECers and the elected EBs will plan the coming session.
The Structure:
The structure of AIESEC1011 has been changed for a few times. After fierce
discussions, the structure is finally confirmed as follows:

The Direction:
No matter what to-be-EBs plan to do, which shall be discussed
after the election, the team will achieve the goal without
wasting time and resources. Ultimately, it shall utilize the
strengths of the LC and its members.
The Team:
The AIESEC1011 team is a truly international one, among 21
members, some of them are from India, mainland China whilst
some have been to AIESEC exchange and some have studied
in other countries before. The cultural diversity environment is
what AIESEC really should have.
Sharing from the team:
“I am very happy with the international
environment in the team. The exchange
returnees’ experience enhances the
mutual understanding of culture. Being
one of the international members, I am
very comfortable in the team. I meet every
individual in the team as to understand his
or her perspectives well. With trust and
understanding, I wish the team can really
be a great team!”
- Pooja Jhaveri, the elected LCP
“I have been preparing for the AIESEC LR for more than 2
weeks, and it has been a really hard time. Though the
pressure is so high, I felt very satisfied and sure-footed. I tried
my best to make everything under my control and finish them
before the deadline. I have gained a lot of knowledge of
AIESEC and met a lot of new friends. The experiences that the
EBs have shared with me are very valuable. So I think it is
really worth putting my effort.”
- Gilbert Chen

First Brand Audit Report Extract
- Communications Team
In December 2009, a brand audit was successfully held in HKUST campus.
972 surveys were completed by HKUST students. The first brand audit aims
to evaluate the current LC positioning and brand to see its alignment with
AIESEC brand. Also, it aims to understand our LC‟s stakeholder - students in
campus to see whether AIESEC fulfills the needs of them.
Conclusions
The majority of students who will get notice by AIESEC booth
- Local students
- Year 1 students
- Business students
The majority of students perceived AIESEC:
- Correctly as an international and leadership organization
- Correctly that we provides Exchange opportunities
- Wrongly as a social organization which holds social parties.
The behaviour of AIESEC members:
- Not effectively delivered to students
- The walking brand of AIESEC among members is not strong
Our stakeholder – students:
- Put academic studies as the highest priority
- Put personal development as the 2nd highest priority which AIESEC can
provide.

Recommendations
Promotions:
Strategic promotion is needed to target science and engineering
students
o (E.g. Promotions at laboratories, class visits, canteens, etc.)
A larger emphasis on „personal development‟, AIESEC uniqueness and
our global learning environment in promotions is recommended.
Giving live examples of AIESEC members in different AIESEC
experiences is recommended to visualize the personal benefits that they
can get when experiencing every part of AIESEC experience.
Promotion methodologies should be focusing on posters, emails and
recommendations from AIESEC-member friends (which are the ways
that students recommended)
Behaviour Management of members:
It is recommended to provide education and pipeline management on
„AIESEC members.‟ Behaviour outside AIESEC, as word-of-mouth, has
played a very important role for students in campus to know about AIESEC.

Candles and Chocolates aren’t
just for Valentines
WNCF sharing, newies track
The warm candles brought us, delegates, in our home-group closer and
tighter together. Around the soft flicker, we reflected ourselves as who we
are; and what in the past made today's us. We wrote to our fellow group
mates about their strengths and areas for improvement. And in return we
saw our impression made to others. Those comments I had received were
quite interesting and memorable. Those were frank words and honest
feelings that were most enlightening.
We also had an empowering afternoon with Francesca, one of the
AIESEC's partners. Delegates listened to the establishment of her
business by which she wishes to enrich one's potential. She shared
with us her experiences living in different cultures; and her journey in
looking for the inspiration of life. And chocolate is what she believes
to be the art that connects people and gives us energy to reach our
destiny. Towards the end of her presentation,
each and every delegate was invited to stand
in a circle and share what we had wished to do
in the future. All of us were supported by
Francesca and our peers, whether our dreams
were to be an excellent housewife, or an
officer in the United Nations. Having listened
to such a passionate and positive woman,
along with Francesca chocolate each of us
received as compliments, I was deeply
inspired; I felt loved; and I felt well.

DRINK IT!
--LC Party
Drink it! The LC Party was held on 3rd February.
Over 40 members from all the teams and some
senior AIESECers attended the party to PLAY
HARD after WORKING HARD at the LG4
Common Room!
Thanks Selina and Victor for leading the thrilling
drinking game and breaking the ice! All
participants tried hard to throw their little
ping-pong balls into the beer cups to make the other
groups drink. And we had a good time dancing our AIESEC dance!
We did not only share yummy food like pizza,
snacks and coke, but also team-updates during
the party. TR members from each team shared
what they had done, their AIESEC experiences
in the last semester and what they have planned
to do in this semester. Everyone is proud of what
AIESEC-LC-HKUST has achieved in just half a
year!
Last but definitely not the least, we ended our
party with a remarkable “drinking competition”! It
showed that no one should ever look down on
young girls‟ capacity to drink as they have
beaten the boys in many rounds!
Nobody should hesitate to join the LC party!
Come to our next one and indulge yourself in
our “WORK-HARD-PLAY-HARD” culture!

ICT Team Reflection
ICT Team has done two great tasks throughout this year, which are
the “InterChallenge” and the “2010 Youth Summit”.
InterChallenge
We have tried many different tasks in InterChallenge and this really
helps us to grow and be more capable in the future. There are so many
uncertainties and stakeholders in this project, and we have to care about
every one of them. We have also learnt what attitude should a member
and a leader hold when we work as a team in project. We should always
prepare for the challenges and contingencies ahead so that we can
eventually come to the success of our project.
“That have been a great chance for me to take the leadership role to
facilitate my personal learning. Also, I am keen to learn how I can affect
others and build a team to achieve our success in the ICT!”
By MSN
“Project Team is rather detached from the entire LC when compared with
other areas. All of our team members are enthusiastic, energetic and
able to develop a strong bonding with each other.”

2010 Youth Summit
The Youth Summit was a very precious opportunity for us to expose to
social issues in Hong Kong. Everyone in our team did many researches
concerning the social topics. In this self-learning process, we not only
acquired a lot of knowledge but also learnt much more through sharing
within our teammates. Because of our great effort, we were able to grab
chances to represent InterChallenge to express our views on the stage.
We were really glad that we have participated in the summit and
represented the youth views.
“It was my honour and pleasure to be one of the presenters and group
facilitators on the topic of multi-culture and science. I have enjoyed and
gained a lot from my participation in the 2010 Youth Summit. It was such
a meaningful and unforgettable experience!”
By Teresa
“It‟s of paramount value to learn and understand what other people think
about different social issues in Hong Kong. I have no regret in taking part
in the events and I am very grateful to have accepted this challenge.
This certainly is an unforgettable experience.”

EP Sharing
What is the unique and greatest value I can get from AIESEC
Exchange? Will it be an invaluable trip which will change my
life values? You can get the answers from the sharing of one
of our EPs - Au Ka Ho Alcohol…
Hey AIESEC! My name is Alcohol. In the
previous winter break, I went to Kochi, India,
for my first DT AIESEC internship. The
project was named “The Green Impact” and I
was responsible for planting trees, giving
presentations, and launching campaigns
with NGOs.
My first impression towards Kochi is that the air pollution problem is severe. You may get some dark liquid out of your nose after activities for the whole day.
And, the most unforgettable thing I learned from AIESEC Exchange is the
unique Indian working style. For example, once we had a presentation at ten
o‟clock on that day. They will only wake you up and inform you to go there
immediately in that early morning. Therefore, we have no idea of what we are
going to do in the coming days.
AIESEC exchange provides me a great
chance to cooperate with people from
around the world. During the cooperation
with people from different nations, I have
learned that the westerners always react
and think directly, whilst the Asians
consider the others‟ feelings as their first
priority.
“

We thus should always be culturally
sensitive as to maintain a harmonious
working environment. It is impossible
for me to get these experiences from
other exchange programs.
Although there are ups and downs in the
exchange, I will not regret for going to
AIESEC Exchange. Though AIESEC is
a place where you can get a lot of opportunities, the one who
decides to get these chances to learn and develop is yourself.
