ethical individuals, having the competencies and the values that are needed to have an active role and find solutions for a better society.

And this is how in this environment we decided to take ownership of our actions and our role as young people in Greece. Providing cross cultural leadership experiences to enable this development to youth.

It has been a year of handling an intense change management internally in the organization, in order to ensure that AIESEC in Greece is actually able to deliver more and better , powerful experiences. In this year we proved that progress and achievement is coming when a group of young people has a strong vision and works hard to achieve it, no matter the external and internal challenges an organization might face.

Looking back, where we started and where we are standing right now, we believe that our efforts had a big contribution and impact in the growth and development of AIESEC in Greece over the last 5 years, making it a bigger and more customer centric Youth Organization, able to handle and offer more experiences to youth. Seeing this outcome, makes me feel proud to be part of this and lead AIESEC in Greece at this moment.

But also this year offered to us, as a National Team, strong life lessons, on working always with values of transparency, respect, perseverance, looking for solutions and opportunities and not for problems and fully embracing our responsibility towards the organization for this one year, taking decisions and actions for a sustainable and healthy future. We learned that if we are striving to empower youth, we first of all need to become better and better every day.

It was a unique leadership and learning journey for me as well, to lead AIESEC in Greece along with my team and the Presidents of the Local Committees during this year and I feel honored to have received such an opportunity.

Thank You,

Our Essence

AIESEC was created in 1948, after Second World War from a young group of people who were determined that cross-cultural understanding was essential to prevent similar conflicts.

Currently, AIESEC is a global independent non-political, not-for-profit, youth-run organization, existing in 128 countries and territories and over 2400 universities.

“We believe that leadership is the fundamental solution and it can be developed in anyone.”AIESEC is a platform for young people to explore and develop their leadership potential.After going through an experience with AIESEC, young people are better prepared to make a positive impact in any sphere they would choose.

AIESEC’s leadership development model seeks to prepare youth to take a stand on whatthey care about and become capable to make a difference through their everyday actions.

Youth Speak is a global movement organized by AIESEC in collaboration with other organizations such as United Nations and aims to unite youth voice all over the world.

The Youth Speak campaign consists of the Global Survey aimed to identify main trends shaping youth’s every day reality, the Youth Speak Forum, that aims to give youth the opportunity to discuss about these issues and the Youth Speak Social Media campaign, which is an open conversation about global youth issues.

Here are few insights we took from Greek Youth. The sample is 700 students, aged 18-25, out of which 71% are women and the rest men.

The survey is still open for Greece so another report will follow during term 15-16.

Global Citizen Story• Σε ποιά χώρα πήγες για εθελοντική εργασία και για πόσο χρονικό διάστημα;

Πήγα στην Γκάνα της Αφρικής και ενώ το πρόγραμμα διαρκούσε ένα μήνα και κάτι, εγώ έκατσα ένα μήνα γιατί αναγκαστήκαμε να φύγουμε λόγω της έξαρσης του ιού Ebola εκείνη την περίοδο. Πιο συγκεκριμένα πήγα στην πρωτεύουσα, την Accra. • Τι ακριβώς περιελάμβανε το πρόγραμμα που πήγες; Τι ακριβώς έκανες;

Το πρόγραμμα ήταν σε ένα σχολείο που ονομαζόταν Youth Hope International School στο οποίο έπρεπε να διδάξω αγγλικά σε παιδάκια ηλικίας 2 έως 6 ετών με εναλλακτικούς, πιο δραστήριους τρόπους διδασκαλίας. Είχα αναλάβει την τάξη με τα παιδάκια που ήταν 4 ετών.Ο ρόλος μου στο project ήταν ουσιαστικά αυτός. Πιο συγκεκριμένα τους δίδασκα τα βασικά, όπως την αλφάβητο, κάποιες λέξεις κλπ. • Τι θεωρείς ότι κέρδισες από αυτήν την εμπειρία;

3. Υπάρχουν πάντα δυό πλευρές σε μία ιστορία. Τις χώρες σαν την Γκάνα όλοι τις παρουσιάζουν σαν τις χώρες της παρακμής,όπου οι άνθρωποι πεινάνε, ζουν μέσα στις παράγκες γεμάτες χώμα, υπάρχει πολύ ασχήμια και όντως ισχύουν αυτά. Υπάρχει ωστόσο και μια άλλη πτυχή της ιστορίας, όπου ενώ τα παιδάκια εκεί δεν ξέρουν να μιλάνε αγγλικά, το μεσημέρι το φαγητό τους είναι μιά κουταλιά ρύζι, ένα κομμάτι ψάρι και ενδιάμεσα junk foods (π.χ. μπισκότα), θα έρθουν παρ’όλα αυτά στα διαλείμματα να σε ρωτήσουν αν θέλεις να το μοιραστείς μαζί τους. Αυτό το πράγμα που μπορεί να μην το έχουν το μοιράζονται και χαίρονται για αυτό. Υπάρχει λοιπόν αυτό που προβάλλουν τα Media, αλλά δεν υπάρχει μόνο αυτό, γνωρίζεις έμπρακτα τι πάει να πει πραγματική ανθρωπιά. • Ποιές ήταν οι κύριες δεξιότητες που ανέπτυξες και σε ποιό βαθμό;

Η κυριότερη δεξιότητα που ανέπτυξα ήταν η προσαρμοστικότητα καθώς πέρα από το έντονο πολιτισμικό σοκ έπρεπε επίσης να προσαρμοστώ και να ακολουθήσω τρόπους διδασκαλίας διαφορετικούς από αυτούς που μέχρι τότε γνώριζα, για να καλύψω τις ανάγκες των παιδιών. • Από όλη την εμπειρία που έζησες ποια είναι τα 2 πράγματα που δεν θα άλλαζες με τίποτα και τα 2 που θα έκανες διαφορετικά;

13

χάιδεψα το χέρι του και του εξήγησα πως δεν είναι καλό να χτυπάς κάποιον από εκείνη τη μέρα ήταν το παιδάκι που ήθελε τις περισσότερες αγκαλιές.2. Ακόμη,τα μεταφορικά μέσα ήταν ένα τεράστιο σοκ. Τα “λεωφορεία” ήταν ουσιαστικά βανάκια με συρόμενη πόρτα που χωρούσαν γύρω στα 15 άτομα στριμωχτά.Υπήρχε ένας οδηγός που κάθε λίγο σταματούσε για να φτιάξει κάτι στο όχημα και ένας άλλος που ήταν μισοκρεμασμένος από το παράθυρο και φώναζε κάθε φορά τον προορισμό. Ακόμη,υπήρχαν κωδικοί όταν ήθελες να σταματήσεις το βανάκι για να πας κάπου. Αυτός ο τρόπος επικοινωνίας ήταν φοβερός. Εγώ να φανταστείς για να καταφέρω να φτάσω στον προορισμό μου στις 9 το πρωί έπρεπε να ξυπνήσω από τις 5 και να περιμένω μια ουρά 20 ατόμων στο μπάνιο ,έφευγα στις 7 και έφτανα στο σχολείο στις 9. Η κίνηση είναι υπερβολική και δεν υπάρχουν ούτε κανόνες οδήγησης, ούτε λωρίδες.3. Ακόμα ένα σοκ, ήταν το φαγητό, το οποίο ήταν αρκετά διαφορετικό και πολύ πικάντικο. • Πώς αξιοποίησες την εμπειρία που αποκόμισες;Έχεις κάποιες συγκεκριμένες σκέψεις για το μέλλον;

• Υπήρχε κάποια στιγμή που θα σου μείνει αξέχαστή; Αν ναι ποιά είναι αυτή;

Η στιγμή που θα μου μείνει αξέχαστη ήταν όταν δίδαξα στα παιδιά για πρώτη φορά. Ήταν η αρχή της δεύτερης βδομάδας και το πρώτο μου επίτευγμα ήταν όταν κατάφερα να κάνω τα παιδάκια να καθίσουν να με ακούσουν ήσυχα για 10 λεπτά. Τα παιδιά για τα δεδομένα μιας σημερινής τάξης ήταν πολύ υπερκινητικά και αποσπώνταν συχνά η προσοχή τους. Για παράδειγμα, εγώ ζωγράφιζα αντικείμενα στον πίνακα και ζητούσα από τα παιδάκια να μου πουν πώς λένε το αντικείμενο στα αγγλικά. Οι αντιδράσεις τους ήταν απίστευτες,φώναζαν όλα μαζί και έδειχναν τόσο μεγάλο ενθουσιασμό. Δεν θα το ξεχάσω ποτέ. • Από όλη αυτήν την εμπειρία υπήρχε κάποιο συγκεκριμένο σοκ; Αν ναι ποιό είναι αυτό;

Global Citizenin Greece

Global citizen in Greece is an opportunity for young people from abroad to come and do volunteer work in schools, NGOs, kindergartens and summer camps in Greece, for a period of 6 weeks. Our program tackles societal issues such as career development, cultural understanding, and economic growth.

More specifically from July 2014 till June 2015 we managed to offer this experience to 222 students, having 78% growth in comparison with last year.

The main projects that we are running are consisted of:

Evolutions of the year: Product Refreshment and Packaging for all national projects, in order to develop and implement projects that are relevant with the Greek reality.

Standardized Delivery Services. We managed to standardize the integration processes for the young volunteers that are coming in Greece such as induction conference and specific preparation depending on their project.

Sustainability of the programme. We have managed to create a stronger synergy between the corporate and non-corporate sales departments from LC level and to package this programme as CSR activity for companies. This helped us have a total amount of 28.155 Euros raised.

Youth Today. First corporate event for raising awareness for Greek societal issues. It was an event which aimed to raise awareness among young people and to instigate a more solution oriented approach.

• Πώς αποφάσισες να κάνεις πρακτική άσκηση στο εξωτερικό και μάλιστα σε μια χώρα τόσο μακρινή όπως η Βραζιλία;

• Η προσαρμογή σε ένα τέτοιο περιβάλλον ήταν δύσκολη για σένα;

Όχι.

• Από άποψη ικανοτήτων τι θα έλεγες ότι κέρδισες εσύ από αυτή την εμπειρία;

• Ποια στιγμή από την εμπειρία σου θυμάσαι πιο έντονα;

Global Talent Story• Υπάρχει κάτι που θα ήθελες να είχες κάνει διαφορετικά κατά τη διάρκεια της συμμετοχής σου στο πρόγραμμα;

• Αν τελικά έπρεπε να περιγράψεις την εμπειρία σου με τρεις λέξεις, ποιες θα ήταν αυτές;

• Πιστεύεις ότι άλλαξες σαν άνθρωπος;

• Έχεις κάποια άλλη σκέψη που θα ήθελες να μοιραστείς μαζί μας;

ENGAGE ENABLE UNITE

The key to the above successes and the development of our people, is the fact that we never forgot to strive for relevance and active contribution to the issues that Greece faces. We focused into creating a collaborative environment between the corporate area and the biggest youth leadership provider in Greece in order to achieve progress together.

Behaving with professionalism & proactivity we built ownership upon a common ambition for Greece.

The field of Corporate Relations for AIESEC in Greece has been structured the last 3 years, having the right and appropriate human capital to work upon it and actually deliver qualitative and meaningful partnerships with the external environment.

The period that we are facing currently in Greece, the consistent unstable economical & political phase, made the term that started even trickier for the area of Corporate Relations in the organization. Although that provided a true mission for us, since having the right allies in the external environment equals our survival and sustainable growth as organization:
