This projects potentialmovement to the lower-weighted MS-DRG, allowing anticipation of the financial impact and facilitating a proactive approach to mitigate negative effects. Worksheetsare included with easy-to-use formulas and examples prepopulated with national data.

• Enhanced crosswalk facilitates the ability to walk from thecurrent CMS-DRG system to the MS-DRG system • Crosswalk offers value in tracking DRG number correlation (same numbers are used for both CMS-DRGsand MS-DRGs) • Weight and transfer DRG information for both systems is included • Includes suggestions for a complication and comorbidityimpact analysis with the codes that are most commonlyreported as the only CC on a case

HIPAA by ExampleMary C. Thomason, MSA, RHIA, CHPS,CISSP, and Jill Callahan Dennis, JD, RHIA,Technical ReviewerAHIMA

HIPAA by Example stands out fromother HIPAA books by providingexpert information on applying thePrivacy Rule correctly under real-lifescenarios. Not just a restatement ofthe rules, HIPAA by Example clarifies

questions not always addressed in the rule itself. The scenariosin the book are based on actual situations and best practices, and reference current state and other laws. HIPAA by Example responds andclarifies areas in the Privacy Rule, such as:• Situations not covered by the Rule• How state laws, drug or alcohol treatment regulations, orother laws should apply to HIPAA (includes search termsfor easily finding these laws and regulations)

• How to define “reasonable” when it comes to application• How the regulations apply to electronic health records• How to apply the Rule in “special” situations, such as dealing with law enforcement

HIPAA by Example facilitates: • Making decisions based on actual privacy questions thatarise in the real world• Determining when more regulatory research is needed andhow to find the information needed for correct application• Keeping informed and up-to-date with information takenfrom the AHIMA Privacy and Security Communities ofPractice, representing years of collective experience sinceHIPAA implementation

Those who work with HIPAA regulations will find theinformation needed to make sound decisions for HIPAAapplication based on regulations and viable solutions.
