    The Office of the Trade Negotiations (OTN) of the CARICOM Secretariat is actively

    engaging stakeholders in Member States in discussions on the CARICOM-Canada

    Negotiations. The first Round of the CARICOM-Canada Trade Negotiations

    commenced on November 10, 2009. CARICOMs objectives in an enhanced

    trade arrangement with Canada are to:

    (i) preserve, build on and broaden the scope of the current instruments of tradeand economic co-operation;

    (ii) where possible, to deepen disciplines to improve market access for CARICOM-exports of goods and services;

    (iii)broaden the country coverage to include all CARICOM states;(iv)stimulate increased flows of Canadian investment into the region; and(v) provide a comprehensive framework for development co-operation initiatives.

    The Second Round of CARICOM-Canada Negotiations towards a Trade andDevelopment Agreement was held on 29 - 31 March 2010 Barbados, and a Draft

    text on Agriculture and Fisheries was circulated to member states for comment.

    The University of Trinidad and Tobago invites interested individuals to attend their

    Open Day on Saturday 24th July 2010, from 10:00am 4:00pm at the ECIAF

    Campus, North Bank Road Centeno. Persons will learn about their Diploma and

    undergraduate Programs in: Crop and Animal Science and Technology, Animal

    Health, Production and Veterinary Public Health, Forestry, Ornamental

    Horticulture, Food Science and Biotechnology. Persons can also participate in

    their interactive demonstrations (budding and grafting, animal clinical procedures

    etc.) and classrooms presentations. There will be lots of giveaways forest and

    vegetable seedlings. Interested persons can contact the University office at 642-

    Mango Festival

    This years Mango Festival will see producers, agri-entrepreneurs; agricultural

    support institutions and entertainers unite under the Network of Rural Women

    Producers (NRWP) of Trinidad and Tobago to host the 2nd Annual Trinidad and

    Tobago Festival. The 1st Annual Mango Festival was held in August 2009 with

    support from IICA and FAO. This year the NRWP has invited several key

    stakeholders in the organization and management of the event, such as the

    Ministry of Food Production, Land and Marine Affairs; The University of the West

    Indies and the Tourism Development Company thus broaden the scope of the

    event. This years theme A celebration of the diversity and utility of the mango

    seeks to promote opportunities that exist through the use of the fruit to create

    livelihoods for generating income, with major emphasis placed on encouraging

    the production and processing and marketing of mango and its by-products. The

    festival will showcase mango products such as mango chutneys, chows, jams

    confectionaries, handcrafted mango soaps and mango paper to name a few.

    The day is tipped to be fun and education for the whole family and will feature

    a mango market, grafting demonstrations, display and sale of mango products

    and lots of exciting games and competitions.
