Agile Team Maturity Assessment Tool

Agile is a process by which we learn the truth.

The Agile Maturity Assessment Tool serves two roles:

1. Identify how mature the team is.

2. Identify where the team is most open to

improvement.

When used with the Agile Organization Maturity

Assessment Tool, the Agile Maturity Strategic Plan, and

the Coach’s Gemba Walk teams can achieve incredible

results in a very short time.

Team Structure Team structure is beyond the control of the

team members but does play a huge role in how

effectively a team adopts and matures in using

agile. The team structure section assess things

like team size, member assignments, and line

management.

Team Dynamics Team Dynamics is the greatest indicator as to how fast a team might mature in using agile. The team

dynamics section assess things like team ownership, commitment, vision, and spirit.

The Product The mission of the agile team is to create a product that meets the client needs and expectations. The

product section assess the team’s commitment to the client’s needs and expectations by measuring

things like product vision, end user involvement, use of business value, and product acceptance.

Agile Ceremonies Agile uses ceremonies, to keep the important, urgent and in everyone’s mind. Highly effective agile

teams understand, respect, and honor these ceremonies. The ceremonies section assess how the team

is using the ceremonies to meet its commitments, to engage with the client, and to improve the team’s

effectiveness by identifying and eliminating waste.

Agile Process Agile is a simple process to understand but often a hard process to adopt. The agile process section

assess the team’s adoption and use of agile tools, team roles, sprint compliance, and story design.

Engineering Process The development process requires the adoption of new ways of doing things. The engineering process

section assess the team’s use of such things as peer reviews, unit test, quality compliance, and defect

management.
