Making Scanning EasyThis Quick Start Guide is designed to be just what it says...a quick start tomaking scanning easy with the Agfa Duoscan T1200 and its supporting appli-cation, Agfa FotoLook PS 3.6. The feature that distinguishes this scannerfrom similar hardware is its ability to scan transparencies and negatives aswell as photographs into color images that can be saved to disc or printed todifferent media types.

This guide will instruct you step by step through making your first scans withthe T1200. You will learn how to create color images from photographs, slidesand negatives. In order to complete the tutorials, you will need examples ofeach. After you make your first scans, you will then learn how to save andprint these images. It’s easier than it sounds.

Getting Started

Getting Started with the AgfaDuoscan T1200Before you can begin the scanning process, youmust first turn the scanner’s power on:

1. On the front right side of the scanner, press the power button.

2. You will hear a loud click sound followed by a series of sounds as the scanner calibrates itself.

3. When the scanner is ready for operation, the three indicator lights will activate. (see Page 1)

Getting Started with AgfaFotoLook PS 3.6To open the FotoLook scanning application:

1. On the upper left portion of the screen, click the

Apple icon. A drop down menu appears.

You are now ready to open Agfa FotoLook PS 3.6.This is the application that allows you to scan yourimages.

Note:If you don’t turn the poweron, you will receive anerror message when youtry to open Agfa Fotolook.

Note:If the scanner does notturn on, check and makesure that it is connectedproperly.

3. On the menu tool bar, click File. The File options drop down menu appears.

4. Select Import, then click Agfa FotoLook PS 3.6. The FotoLook application window opens.

You are now ready to make your first scan.

2. Select Favorites, then select Applications, and then click Adobe Photoshop 5.0 LE. The Photoshop application window opens.

Note:You cannot open AgfaFotolook without openingAdobe Photoshop.

Making Your First ScanThe feature that distinguishes the Agfa DuoscanT1200 from other scanners is its ability to scantransparencies and negatives as well as photo-graphs. You may scan from three sources. For thepurpose of this tutorial, you will learn how to scanone example from each source. Allow 15 minutesto complete each chapter.

1. a reflective original (a photograph).

2. a transparent original (a slide).

3. a negative original (a 35 mm negative).

You will then learn how to save and print thescanned images.

Scanning a Photograph

Placing the original in the scanner

1. Lift the document cover on top of the scanner.

2. Place the photograph face down on the glass plate with the top centered against the front ruler.

3. Close the document cover.

The next step is to adjust the application settings.

Adjusting the settings

1. Open FotoLook. (See directions on page 3)

2. On the upper left portion of the screen, click Overview.

3. Make sure that the overview settings are as follows:

a) Original: Reflectiveb) Scan area: Max. Areac) Mode: Color RGB

4. If these settings are not present, click the indicated boxes and correct them.

Note:If you place the photo-graph incorrectly, thescanned image willappear inverted.

Warning:If you don’t close thedocument cover beforescanning, light from thescanner may be harmfulto your eyes.

Scanning the image

1. On the bottom left portion of the FotoLook application window, click Preview.

2. The image will appear in the preview window. This will take a few moments to complete.

3. You will notice a flashing border around the preview window. On the perimeter of this border appears a series of small white boxes.

4. Move your mouse pointer over one of the boxes. The mouse pointer will become a double arrow.

5. Using your mouse, click and drag each box until you reach the desired area of the photograph that you wish to scan.

You may now scan the photograph.

6. On the bottom left portion of the screen, click Scan.

7. The scanned image will appear in a new window. This will take a few moments to complete.

You may now save or print the scanned image:

1. For instructions on how to save, go to page 15.

2. For instructions on how to print, go to page 17.

Scanning a SlideChapter 3Placing the original in the scanner

1. Extend the lower tray from the front of the scanner.

2. Place the slide face down on the glass plate with the top centered against the arrow.

3. Firmly push the slide under the slide holder.

4. Close the lower tray.

The next step is to adjust the application settings.

Adjusting the settings

1. Open FotoLook. (See directions on page 3)

2. On the upper left portion of the screen, click Overview.

3. Make sure that the overview settings are as follows:

a) Original: Transparentb) Scan area: Max. Areac) Mode: Color RGB

Scanning a Negative Chapter 4Placing the original in the scanner

2. Place the negative strip horizontally face down on the glass plate with the top centered against the arrow.

3. Firmly push the negative strip under the negative holder (See Page 1).

4. Close the lower tray.

The next step is to adjust the application settings.

2. On the upper left portion of the screen, click Overview.

1. On the menu toolbar, click File. The File drop down options box opens.

2. Click Save As. The Save As window opens.

Saving a Scanned ImageChapter 5

After you complete the scanning process, you maysave your image for later use.

3. On the right side of the Save As window, click Desktop. This selects desktop as your file destination.

4. Under Save This Document As, Type: “park.” Park becomes your file name.

5. Under Format, make sure that jpeg is selected. If it is not, click the Format box and correct it.15

6. Click Save. The jpeg options box opens.

7. Click OK. Your image file has been saved to your desktop.

Note:The desktop should onlybe used for temporarystorage. You may alsosave your scanned im-ages to a disk or to yourH Drive on the UNCCharlotte Network. Referto the Help Menu fromyour desktop.

Chapter 6 Printing a Scanned ImageAfter you complete the scanning process, you mayprint your image.

1. On the menu toolbar, click File. The File options drop down menu opens.

2. Click Print. The print options box appears.

3. Make sure the following settings are selected: a) Printer: Fretwell 215 printer b) Destination: Printer

4. If these settings are not selected, click the indicated boxes and correct them.

5. Click Print. Your image will be sent to the Fretwell 215 printer.
