Alexander Hamilton Bridge HistoryAlexander Hamilton Bridge HistoryA new eight-lane arch span was

proposed - the Alexander Hamilton Bridge – to connect the Trans-Manhattan and Cross-Bronx

Expressways.

Currently, estimated traffic over the Hamilton Bridge is over 188,000 vehicles

per day.

The Alexander Hamilton Bridge has not undergone

major repair since it opened on January 15, 1963.

In 1955, Robert Moses determined that the 181st Street Bridge would not be able

handle the anticipated traffic demands from the proposed lower level of the

George Washington Bridge.
