GE extends Wuxi, China plantAffinia opens new filtration factory in China GE has doubled the production

capacity of its water technologies manufacturing plant in Wuxi New Zone in eastern China, adding a number of product lines and extending its on-site membrane-element fabrication capacity.

“The expansion of the Wuxi manufacturing facility will greatly

enhance our capability to help our customers implement projects to more quickly comply with China’s increasingly stringent, cleaner air and water regulations,” said Jeff Connelly, vice present, engineered systems − water and process technologies for GE Power & Water.

Production has started at Affinia Group’s new filtration products manufacturing facility in Longkou City, Shandong Province, China.

Longkou WIX Filtration Co Ltd will serve the rapidly growing Asian markets and represent a significant expansion of Affinia’s existing business relationship with Zhang Haibo, president of Haimeng, one of the largest drum and rotor manufacturers in the world.

“The opening of WIX Longkou is an important new chapter in our World Smart business strategy,” said Terry McCormack, Affinia Group president and CEO. “It

is with total confidence that we invest in this new opportunity with Zhang Haibo, who has demonstrated strong leadership and keen business sense, bringing significant growth and success to our rotor operations. The new 220 000 sq ft filtration centre, located in the Longkou Economic Development Zone, will manufacture filtration products for light and heavy-duty vehicles. WIX Longkou will primarily focus on service to Asian markets.

Calgon Carbon secures remaining 20% stake in Calgon Carbon JapanCalgon Carbon Corp has completed the acquisition of Calgon Carbon Japan KK (CCJ), the former joint venture between Calgon Carbon Corp and Mitsubishi Chemical Corp (MCC).

Calgon Carbon increased its ownership of the joint venture

from 49% to 80% in March 2010 through the redemption of MCC shares and changed the name to Calgon Carbon Japan KK.

CCJ is now a wholly owned subsidiary of Calgon Carbon.

Eaton Corp has bought German hydraulic filtration and instrumentation company Internormen Technology Group.

“This acquisition will significantly expand Eaton’s filtration product portfolio with technically advanced products and systems for mobile, industrial hydraulic and process applications. Internormen has a leadership position in fast growing markets such as wind power and a well-established presence in emerging economies such as Brazil, India and China. Its global footprint strengthens our regional presence in the Americas, Europe and

Asia Pacific,” said William VanArsdale, president of Eaton’s Hydraulics Group, which includes the hydraulic, filtration and golf grip businesses.

Internormen, which was founded by the Franger family in 1972, is based in Altlussheim, Germany with sales and distribution subsidiaries in India, China, Brazil and the United States. The company employs approximately 360 people and had 2010 sales of more than US$55 million.

Toray Industries Inc will supply reverse osmosis (RO) membranes to two seawater desalination plants in Qingdao and Caofeidian, China.

The two plants, which are both scheduled to start operations later this year, will together produce 150 000 m3 of water per day.

The Qingdao desalination plant, with a water production capacity of 100 000 m3 per day, is the largest desalination plant

in China and is the country’s first plant to be fully focused on producing drinking water.

The Caofeidian desalination plant in Tangshan, Hebei, will have a production capacity of 50 000 m3 per day. The water produced by the plant will be mainly used as industrial water at the Caofeidian industrial development zone and partly as drinking water.

Pall ships 500th water systemPall Corp’s Cortland plant in New York has completed and shipped its 500th Pall Aria municipal water system.

The system shipped was a Pall Aria AP-2 unit, one of a series of packaged membrane systems pioneered by Pall to meet the

water treatment requirements of small communities. The Cortland plant shipped its first system in 1998. Pall Aria systems are capable of producing drinking water from almost any raw water source.
