In the the 1980s, research psychologists who studied the devleopment of aesthet-ic awareness (the ability to make sense of a work of art) regarded the ability to identify with the artist’s process as the

highest stage of development. fuc k tha t i don’t trust psychologists or artists.

But access to arts is not equally avail-able to all. While art can be an empa-thy-building tool, access to its privi-leged processes is often contingent on one’s social and economic capital

Could an aesthetic education feel similar to monkhood?

If one invests in the subjectivity of others to such an extent that there is no differentiation between self and other,

could a grand enlightenment occur?
