Success Rate of the 1st Callby Instrument

Page 16: Aeronautics and Air Transport The 2 nd Call for Proposals and beyond Dietrich Knörzer

1. Scientific and/or technological excellence - Fail to position the work in relation to present state-of-the-art - Level of innovation is too low - Not convincing that technical challenges can be met - Lack of focus in the technical objectives, too many items without synergy

2. Quality and efficiency of implementation and management- Management structure is very weak.- Very little real cooperation between key partners.- Risk assessment and management is not convincingly addressed- Partners have not sufficient critical mass to address all diverse areas- Funding requested is considered too large for the expected results

3. Potential impact through development, dissemination and use of results- Dissemination is weak - Impact/funding ratio appears low.

Full Virtuality in Design and Product Development within the Extended EnterpriseReduce time to market and development cost through a new paradigm - based on concurrent engineering

- supported by virtual reality across the whole cycle

(from conceptual design……. to testing and certification),

- involving multidisciplinary teams at all levels - collaborating in an extended enterprise concept.

Functionalities to integrate in the framework e. g.:- multi-physics analysis at aircraft, systems, subsystems & component, - "in-context" interactive knowledge design & decision support, - management of uncertainty in the development cycle, - methods to control design evolution across pre-design and dev., - virtual testing to reduce or eliminate the need of physical testing.

Validation: through test cases from real design, development and certification

Level 2 Topic under ” Increasing Cost Efficiency ” (1)

Subjects for Focused Research Collaborative Projects

(CP-FP = Level 1) and Coordination Actions (CSA-CA)

• Flight Physics• Aero-structures• Propulsion• Systems & Equipment• Avionics• Design Systems and Tools• Production• Maintenance• Air Traffic Management• Airports• Human Factors

These subjects are likely to remain for all the duration of FP7

Page 30: Aeronautics and Air Transport The 2 nd Call for Proposals and beyond Dietrich Knörzer

DG RTD-H.3 Aeronautics - 30

New Level 1 Topics: Promising Pioneering Ideas in Air Transport

Based upon ACARE’s "Out of the Box” study for radical changes

• The Cruiser/feeder concept. Very large aircraft flying nearly permanently on stable circuits

being fed with passengers from feeder aircraft. • Take-off and landing using ground-based power.

Replacing on-board systems and fuel with ground systems and power.• Personal air transport systems.

Operational concepts (on-board and on-ground) and vehicle technologies for individual transportation.

• New sources of aircraft main propulsive power. New views of propulsion beyond gas turbine concept, using

other energy sources.

“Greening”: Flight and Air Traffic management. Adopting alternative flight

profiles and altitudes for reduced emissions.

Page 31: Aeronautics and Air Transport The 2 nd Call for Proposals and beyond Dietrich Knörzer

DG RTD-H.3 Aeronautics - 31

Other Highlights
